Funny yet sadly so truthful
By Truth in Humor
It has been sometime now since Believe the Movie was first talked about. Qblog even did an interview with the film's director Loki Mulholland a while back. Well tonight I decided what the heck and purchased my own copy of the movie. I was impressed with the site and how it has evolved since the last time I visited. I would recommend reading the stories that were submitted, they are some of the funniest stories I have heard. Here is an example:
"I was sponsored by a friend of mine. One of the direct distributors above me was always well-dressed, wore rings, had a nice car, etc. After two years or so of showing the plan, attending meetings and buying material I'd sponsored two people and wasted incredible time and money. Years later I was at a friend's apt downtown. We ordered a pizza and who would deliver it but the same well-dressed direct distributor! I hid behind the couch and covered my head with a pillow. I was embarrassed for both of us."
They also have put up a blog that seems to be just getting started. I figure if the movie is even half as good as some of the clips that are out on youtube it will have been money well spent. Anyway, here are a couple of my favorite clips off of youtube that are funny yet so very true.

Truth...
Your second video clip comes up fine, but your first video link isn't working. Maybe it is something on my end of the line?
I've been wanting to see Believe. It should provide some comic relief for a situation which really isn't all that funny: folks spinning their wheels making others wealthy. I try to keep an open mind about MLM, Quixtar, and the direct selling industry, but as time goes by, it becomes harder to see anything funny about folks squandering their time, money, family and friends to a cult like Quixtar.
I would think that maybe a post on the recent United Kingdom Amway decision might have been more timely, but, like my Dad always said, “It's your railroad, you can run it any way you want to.”. Anyway, both the movie and the decision are comedic in nature. Maybe your post makes more sense than the decision?
I really think this a film that critics and supporters of the biz will both enjoy, if not for anything else some laughs. Similar to how fraternity mebers can get a good laugh from the myriad of films showing them as purely social deviants on campus.
Looks good.
Seriously, How stupid! What is funnier is that you baught the movie. You may associate that movie with other MLM's. I have seen a few that might fit that mold but try to have enough class to not do it with a (Accredited Quixtar LOA's)http://www.quixtaraccreditation.com/ the new process has streamlined a already great business model which all LOA's have to be offical by September of 08. Then you will have to find another area of this great business to slander or complain about. I read most of these post and Gosh there all Negative.
Forgiven IBO,
Man every time I read a story like that I feel like I got off light. I had debt when I left the business and it took some time and it wasn't fun by any means but I am thankful I was able to avoid filing bankruptcy. Our uplines didn't say we were sinning but certainly tried every other trick to keep us buying books, tapes, etc.
Isn't that funny, not once did they worry if we were still showing the plan or retailing any products. The only time they got concerned was when we stopped buying standing order, etc.
quixtarisacult,
I was able to play the first movie. I am using Firefox browser, not sure if that has anything to do with it.
Brad,
Excuse me but when did accreditation start? So in your world if someone starts an unproven program decades after the problems started all is well. Sorry but I will wait to see if this accreditation actually solves any of the abuses going on in this organization.
I know you would like to stick your head in the sand and point the finger at every other MLM out there but the classy thing to do would be to recognize that your MLM has issues itself instead of just deny all.
Meh,
I agree with your post! Both sides should be amused at this movie. I'm going to buy it and put it right next to Trading Places featuring Eddie Murphy. Trading Places is a classic. It's just comedy, man!
Brad,
Calm down fella...you need to laugh more. Learn from people like Forgiven IBO, Truth and run your business properly.
Truth,
Good topic this week(Humor), especially after the Perfect Water Topic. Again, thanks for letting me post.
Proud U.S. Navy and IBO,
Eric
Synagogues... lmao. That really caught me off guard.
Honestly though, the hokeyness of some of the things I saw during my time in Quixtar is personified in this film from what I have seen so far. Yes, the film plays it up, but still, it was funny how many people I met at small and large functions that had that same plastic way of carrying themselves. I really wanted to listen and believe them when they told their story or espoused interest in me and what I did, but I just couldn't in the back of my mind. I was kind enough not to laugh in a few of their faces as they spoke; they came off so fake. I realize now that it was because, behind it all, they really weren't going anywhere, but they didn't want to discourage me (or maybe they just couldn't admit it to themselves), so they "faked it trying to make it." I applaud their resolve, but I sincerely hope they jumped ship before it sank.
We need films like this to remind us that, despite some of the horrors that come with a failed experiment in making money, there is a bright side, and that we can eventually laugh at our falls. I'm really glad to see that those who experienced the kind of pain and defeat that Forgiven IBO no doubt felt in his work and marriage are still able to look at this film and laugh. I'm also glad to see that you turned it around Forgiven. Something like this should never get in the way of you and the woman you love. That comes once a lifetime.
Anyhow, thanks for putting up these snippets, Truth. I think I'll grab this one once I get a bit of extra cash this week. Looks to be a riot.
They are a little LATE finaly coming out with a copy to purchase... Quixtar dissolved... Amway returns....Kingpins resigned / terminated ....
Interest in this business is declining.
Truth,
Well maybe your have not studied up on what Accreditation really means. All LOA's if not Accredited by the end of August will not be Q/A LOA's or more simply put if not accredited down line IBO just won’t get paid. It is a nice way of saying YO clean house and the Corporation did. It has given all LOA’s one year to reform for the new Amway launch. This was laid down last July 07 and all LOA’s if they wanted to continue had to create checks and balances for tracking all tools sold to IBO’s. Actually the accreditation process has not been fun since Amway has in essence cleaned house with a short time line. I know our group worked tirelessly to get approved and spent million out of pocket to do it right and for the future. For IBO’s in the U.S this is a huge undertaking but a huge benefit to all and the future of the business. This was predominantly the main reason for the Woodward (TEAM) split last July. I am sure it won’t be long before Monavie tells Woodward and there groups to implement a trackable tool system with detailed numbers. It is a lot stricter than one might think and great for the future business. I have seen many of the LOA’s online tool tracking systems and wow they are cool. This is a great thing for the business. I am sure other companies will be trying to follow Amway's lead since this give more credibility.
So to your comment,
“Sorry but I will wait to see if this accreditation actually solves any of the abuses going on in this organization.”
Yes wait, you will most likely start hearing about it in the new fiscal year. Well from a positive view point this stops it Cold Turkey! Then now you and Scott can go find something else to be negative about since the only thing people could complain about was the tools. It is now fixed and a huge benefit to the future of this great business. Now we can concentrate on Q/A product and growing teams. I am sure you will want to blast this too. Have a great day:)
Forgiven - that is so sad. I have to say I used my experiences as a learning lesson. I learned a lot about how to run a business and how to read people - unfortunatly most of it from being taught the wrong way.
I'd love to know who is BWW told you that as I was in BWW too.
Brad - being acc. only means that they cannot put certain info on tapes and that people need to know the rules and that they get paid on tools. It doesn't necessarily stop problems - only time will tell if that happens.
Date night tonight! This thing shipped quick...
Observer: Thanks for the support. There are thousands of ex-MLM'ers that need to hear of non-MLM success. The psychological torment some people experience while dissolving a relationship with an MLM is really unbelievable and the only things that can help them regain some form of reality and perspective are sites like this one and AmQuix.info. My wife and I didn't do counseling or anything after we left LTD/BWW/Amway/Q*. We started researching and identifying the tactics they were using and that helped us put everything in perspective.
oldibo: Hey man, be not sad. I choose to believe that these soul murderers will eventually be held accountable for their actions...be it in this life or the next. They can't take their snake oil wealth with them when they die...I don't care what Kenneth Copeland has to say about that...and I won't mention the name of the (then) BWW/LTD Emerald, because I still have dignity.
Brad: It's over man. In a few years, Amway/Alticor will restructure and you'll be out of a non-paying commission job. You have the spirit and the drive to be successful on your own. Don't waste it with these scum sucking posers. Amway is doing nothing to keep America free. If anything they're distracting the bold and the brave while our homeland is being sold to the highest bidder. Wake up and be your own man while you still can.
Brad,
Maybe you have not studied up on what I am all about. You can try to link me to Scott Larsen and play the stereotype game till you are blue in the face. Many times I have made it clear why I blog about this opportunity and what I hope people get from it. Check it out!!
I will wait and see on the program. When I stop hearing stories like the ones that are all over this blog and forum then maybe I will have seen something good come from it. I won't say it isn't a step in the right direction, but I don't dismiss all the pain the LOAs have caused people either just because some think this program is the savior.
Implementing and enforcing are two different matters entirely. We have seen Amway implement this, now I want to see them actually enforce it.
Forgiven IBO,
Thanks for posting. I have a similar story to you. I was in LTD/BWW and quit after my upline Emerald made some out of line comments. Jump on over to the "Forum" section of the blog and you can read my story. Feel free to PM me as well.
Forgiven - I say it's sad - not in sorrowful but in pretty pathetic. The upline is supposed to counsel you on business - but so many of them cross the line into your personal life - then claim you aren't in counsel if you don't do what they say. I was told to do things that were not only unscriptural - but were NOT going to help my family. Mine actually counseled people not to break pins because it would effect their income.
Um - I'm quite sure that if you're not in an 'accredited system' you'll still get paid by Amway to sell products.
The incentive was the QBI bonus - which is different from the performance and other bonuses. It's a good chunk of cash, but it's not the same as the others.
If your statement was true, 'lone wolf' IBOs who are running businesses without participating in any 'tools programs' wouldn't get paid because they were sponsored by a sleazy organization. That's not the case at all.
But, it's telling of your understanding of the 'business' - that IBOs need to be all 'tooled up' in order to actually be considered and IBO.
For once and for all - please, someone, show that the 'tools' are effective, and that the 'accredited' tools are even more effective. Also include the difference between the two. Until then, keep shelling out those dollars for your 'accredited' training program. You get a degree out of that?
Got my copy the other day - what a riot!
"But it's Air Supply!"
This is a message for Truth. Hey man, how are you doing? Do you know how to get in contact with Loki, the director of the movie? I have ordered the move from his site, but I have yet to receive it. How long did it take you to receive the DVD?
I just purchased my copy of Believe! after my wife and I watched the trailer. I am soo glad that my wife and I can now laugh at our experience in Quixtar/Amway. We were not laughing in 2005 when we went bankrupt and were on the verge of divorce. We both left the business after our upline LTD (then BWW) Emeralds told us that God was making our lives miserable due to the fact that I was sinning because we stopped buying standing order. He quoted 1st Timothy 2:14 and said that my wife was being deceived into believing that we had to stop the business (because we had no money and were being forclosed upon), and it would be a grievous sin to quit the business. Long story short, I called him a lunatic and told him to never contact me again.
Now in 2008, I thank God everyday we dissolved our association with that abomination called LTD/AMWAY/Quixtar. My wife and I are now happily married to each other, she is now an executive banker (finishing up her college education with a Bachelors in Finance), I own a profitable business with several employees, and we are expecting a son.
Anyway, I will do whatever it takes to support this film and I hope that many people with experiences similar to mine will do the same.
