Crosslining is fun!
By Truth in A/QMOs
So what's the deal with this no crosslining rule anyway? Seriously? So someone talks to someone in another LOS and gets some advice and they have to check with their upline? Who's business is this anyway? If the advice is good the advice is good and it shouldn't matter where it comes from. Granted there could be some cases where crosslining is not a good idea, but a good business person would know that.
So if you are an IBO have some fun, go talk to your crossline about business and if they bring up the whole "no crosslining" rule tell them to pull the plug out and live a little. It's your business, so shouldn't you be able to decide who you want to talk to about your business?
Comments
I agree with David - the "no crosslining" rule is an AMO concept - NOT something from the Corp.
I suspect the idea comes from one AMO not wanting an IBO to find out that another AMO's tapes or functions are cheaper; or that they're NOT the largest/fastest growing/most innovative/best success rate [fill in the adjective of your choice]
Deb
My crosslines and I talk and have fun all of the time. Do I give them business advice? No. Do we discuss certain challenges we face and swap funny stories? Absolutely. My crossline friends and I have respect for our respective sponsors and/or mentors enough to just go to them to get business advice. It's not a hard guideline to consider. It's not a hard-fast rule either. It's called "code of conduct". I find that ethically appealing.
I wrote this with the AMO concept of crosslining in mind. I can understand the Amway/Quixtar reasoning.

If you're looking for ethics, you may want to keep looking.
Actually Deb, that's not entirely true. Rules 4.14 and 4.15 address "cross-lining". Even "indirect" inducement to change LOS is a violation. If two IBOs talk to each other about how their business is doing, and one is shrinking and one is growing, that could quite reasonably be considered "inducement" that the first guy should think about swapping LOSs.
"truth" also said "Granted there could be some cases where crosslining is not a good idea, but a good business person would know that."
Indeed. And most new IBOs are extremely inexperienced as business owners, hence the "no-crosslining" guideline, whereas more experienced IBOs at higher levels *do* share ideas and disseminate them through their organisations.
Back in the old days, not crosslining was also a way to insure cash flow to the upline. When we went Profit Sharing (ask your upline about that ancient pin level) and got "the talk" from our upline emerald, we found out how much money our upline emerald, and diamond were making from our attending one of their functions. Tickets used to run $1000/couple, with about $600 being split between the diamonds and emeralds. I understand the prices are somewhat less now, but I bet the profit split isn't.
Anyway, all of a sudden we understood why we were expected to travel 1500 miles to a major function, when one of our upline diamonds' crossline diamond was having a function in our own city.
I said we understood, not agreed with, especially when tapes from the crossline's function started coming down as tapes of the week in our diamonds group.
It's called "code of conduct". I find that ethically appealing.
Is this 'code of conduct' written anywhere? On a poster in the house? What else is on the list?
As functions were once described: it's for training and meeting other IBOs...you just can't talk about the 'business' with them at a 'business' function. Appealing, indeed!
rocket... Quixtar is just a portal; the ethics are those that I adhere to in my business. I don’t speak for others. Thus, I've found the right place. Thanks.
Porkchopjim... it is written somewhere [or at least spoken about in some detail regularly] and there are 9 core values that are listed and I also adhere to. Someone who is young or inexperienced in the business could be giving misleading or the wrong advice to someone else who's inexperienced in the business as well. When you're only the leadership team, then it makes more sense that you talk more about business crossline. Wisdom is more effective and lasting than pure knowledge. It's not hard. It's helping me build a strong business. That IS appealing.
ibofightback: "[...] more experienced IBOs at higher levels *do* share ideas and disseminate them through their organisations."
Those participating in BWW system income are not considered experienced?
Those TEAM diamonds were sure experienced! :D
Unfortunately, Quixtar is not just a portal. The Corp. has made this clear by ensuring that there is no confusion that you are involved in Amway, which is a well known multi-level marketing company.
Despite the fact that you may run your business ethically (and I have no reason to doubt that) you must understand that Amway itself has a devastatingly poor reputation.
I know you don't speak for others, but, unfortunately, others, many many others have already spoken for you.
I wish you much success, however, the reputation and non-competitive products, shipping charges, the history of successful leaders quitting or getting punted will cripple your efforts almost certainly.
Defenders of the business like Tex and IBOFIGHTBACK/Insider don't help much either.
The 9 core values that you refer to is interesting. Does Amway have core values to adhere to? I know that the IBOAI wouldn't think so.'
I doubt IBOFB's blatant spin stories would fall under appropriate ethics in any business other than government.
I'm afraid that the ethics you speak of are little more than empty words in the Amway organization.
But Hey! Maybe you can be the tip of the sword! It's gotta start somewhere. Good Luck!
The rules are to not pass negative info downline, after all it will affect YOUR business. However, passing or recieving negative from a crossline Ibo could OPEN your eyes up.
The most memorable crossline advice I received was from a very charismatic, enthusiastic, people and sales oriented new Ibo that showed the 'Plan' 125 times and only registered TWO people that did nothing.
Crossline info like that would have saved me YEARS of wasted time.
...it is written somewhere [or at least spoken about in some detail regularly] and there are 9 core values that are listed and I also adhere to.
They're written. It's called your 'system.' Mine has two core values: sell products and show the plan. I find the others only ensure that you are a slave to your tools and functions and provide no business value whatsoever.
Also - with real 'ethics' - it works both ways. Your 'core values' only point up. You'll learn why that is designed that way eventually...and why they are fake.
But, suit yourself.
Hi
I just shifted to US, as soon as I moved my cousin talked about quixtar ( they never asked us if we would be interested, they were 100% sure that we would), we couldn't say no and attended a major meeting because they travelled quite a long distance jus to guide us and also my husband got interested. we joined quixtar and i made it clear to my husband that i m not convinced therefore not interested in it( I worked as a marketing co-ordinator in business development)but ll def support him. Though I wasn't interested, to support my husband,I started looking into their website and tried learning eveyrhting I could about quixtar.
Its been a month since we joined and already I m totally turned off..
reasons.
1. The upline keeps calling me to attend the meetings.
2. keep telling me to start buying stuff ( what happened to the line .."do it in your phase")..I want to buy but hey jus because u r a member doesnt mean u buy stuff even if u dont need it .. and we have our budget ...some stuff were expensive and limited choice meaning a super market can sell same product of different brands which we can compare and take the one that fits into our criteria. I was disappointed because it wasnt what I expected ( not trying to defame quixtar it jus didnt suit my needs)
3. My cousin is disappointed cause she thought by now I would be doing the business like a pro ..she even said we praised so much about you to the upperline ( my prev job) but u r so dull..hey gimme a break I jus moved to US, I dont even know a single soul, adjusting to new country and newly married life... these days I m avoiding her calls since she is only talking about this business and hours and hours same stuff.
4. Now i feel being bossed...i feel more like a sales person than business owner. The upperline fixed a meeting next week....they jus told us we r coming on that date you get people ...I told my husband its unfair they cant give us deadline or targets.. we r being pressurised so i wont support him now and we should quit this ... I didnt cancel their meeting cos I want them to come cos i have lot of questions to ask esp on my first anniversary.
It might have worked for others but def not for me .....
I m talking only about my experience and expressing my thoughts about why it didnt work for me ..I m not disgracing others involved in it ... It jus didnt click between me and my upperline because of misunderstood crossline...

That's because a salesperson is exactly what you are. You are an Amway representative thru Quixtar, and your job is to sell products, earning retail mark-up and commission on sales of others you recruit.
Sounds like that was the first lie you were told, that Quixtar isn't sales.
Make a list of perhaps the top 8-10 things that concern you, and don't allow upline to get away with unsatisfactory answers.
If you can't get good answers, well...that should be answer enough.
Good luck!
Crossline??
What I do not understand is if you work in a different business and your share ideas with anohter how does that violate policy? there are a few compnaies that actually promote crosslne check out xl rev share they do...?
Rocket... I can't speak much for Amway since I only know what little I remember as kid when my mom was in Amway. What I remember clearly is that she continued to buy some of the cleaning products for years after she stopped selling them. Even if some of the products are a bit more expensive [which I noticed day one], I don’t care. As long as I get quality and I can SHOW quality, then I’m good. I’ve never had ANYONE ever come back to me complaining of the price of something once they saw the quality. I don’t buy cars or homes with the same thought process either.
Thanks for well wishes.
Willy... I can only speak for myself, but I signed up two people the first month in business. My mother-in-law and a good friend. The following 4 months, I contacted [and I counted because I keep contact records] 145 people, showed the plan to 45 of them and signed up none. With those numbers it would have been pretty easy to just fall off and cry "SCAM!" However, during that time I was reading some really good books about self-image and creating conversations. Suffice it to say, in the last 4 months I've contacted to 127 people, shown the plan to 65, and signed up 31 people. How? I built myself up during my low period and just STAYED in. Now, I'm looking to be a new 4000 pin at the end of the month. Thus, that average of $1500/month is looking real sweet right about now.
All I can say, is that I NEVER let someone else's successes or failures dictate my own. If Jesus walked by most people they’d problem try to find about 100 wrong with Him as well.
Those checks that come every month - cash every month. Thus, until they start bouncing, I'm in it to win it.
In moderation. Sometimes, misery loves company, and it is detrimental for all involved. Also, some people like to speak negative, and they can mess with someone's life and livelihood through the distribution of ignorance.
Not to beat a dead horse, but clarify that "crosslining" according to Quixtar rules is different than "crosslining" in a Line of Sponsorship.
Quixtar does not allow "crosslining" in regards to supplying products, not talking to others in different LOS
