DeVos Governor Race

By Drew in Quixtar

With 11% of precincts reporting Fox News has called the race for Governor of Michigan for Jennifer Granholm, ending Dick DeVos's run for governor of the state.

How much impact do you think the "Amway factor" played in this race?

Given the Dems haven't yet lost a seat they held anywhere (though a couple in georgia in danger), and they held this one, not much.

Given the Democrat Tsunami, if DeVos is even close at the end of the count then I'd have to call it an Amway plus! :)

ps YEEEHHAAAAHHHH!!!! Finally some adults will be running your country again. C'mon Jim Webb, you can hold on ....

Georgia seats look safe now too .... hahahahahahhaha ... Democrat whitewash!!!! :-D

I'm worried that insider is happy with those results.

I and most of the planet is delighted, believe me. Bin Ladin probably isn't happy - someone might remember he destroyed a couple of buildings and actually try to catch him now.

DeVos lost because the Detroit vote couldn't identify with him. Michigan gubenatorial elections are an East Side vs. West Side affair, with the Detroiters holding most of the voting power. Granholm has that connection. Dick Posthumous lost in 2002 for the same reason. Before Granholm, Engler was in office for 12 years because he made an effort to reach out to the Dem base on the east side.

The Real Big election from last night? Is not Granholm over DeVos. The city of Zeeland repealed its 100-year-old ban on alcohol sales by a scant 40 votes. That, in a word, is AWESOME. You have to be from West Michigan to truly appreciate what an affront that is to the Dutch Mafia.

I really don't think the Amway connection made much difference one way or the other. I think most x-Amway folks are unaware of the DeVos's connection to the AMO's bad habits, unless they've read Scheibeler's book.

I think it had more to do with the unions, their ability to get out the vote, and their support of Democrats over Republicans on most issues.

And the Detroit factor mentioned above.

Waymee - LOL!! You are right - that's HUGE news!!! Grandville will sell booze on Sunday, too! The Dutch Mafia is definitely losing their grip!

Back to the topic: I'd like to think that the "Amway" factor was a very small one; and that folks were MORE concerned with his complete lack of experience. They said on the radio this morning that exit polls indicated that most folks didn't blame Granholm for the job loss in Michigan (and that was the mainstay of DeVos' campaign). It also didn't help DeVos that a last-minute news story on illegal campaign-sign placement showed HUNDREDS of DeVos signs where they DIDN'T belong...he of course blamed the "independent volunteers" (hmmm...smells like the usual MLM "dodge"...LOL!!)

The weird part is that areas that traditionally vote Republican (most of W MI) still voted for Granholm....yet most of the other races had Republican winners. Does NOT say a lot for DeVos.

Sure wish I had a smidgen of all the millions he spent on his campaign - I coulda bought me my very own island in the Caribbean.

Deb

I have to amend my above message - the Grand Rapids Press is showing that DeVos DID win many W Michigan counties....that's not how it sounded on the radio this morning.

Deb

It looks like De Vos won Kent, Ottawa, Allegan, Newaygo, St. Joseph, Barry, Branch, and Berrien counties here in West Michigan. He lost Muskegon, Kalamazoo, Calhoun, Oceana, Cass, and Van Buren.

I moved from the Bluest county in West Michigan (Muskegon) to the Reddest one (Ottawa) this summer.

INSIDER said: "Bin Ladin probably isn't happy - someone might remember he destroyed a couple of buildings and actually try to catch him now."

Yeah he is real scared since the Democrat who was sitting in the oval office at the time didn't do jack squat when he had those buildings destroyed. Oh yeah, he is shaking at the thought of the Democrats, that's why he released that video claiming that he would target red states after the 2004 elections.

But then again coming from someone who is overseas I am not surprised that yet we have another subject that you have no idea what you are talking about.

"Yeah he is real scared since the Democrat who was sitting in the oval office at the time didn't do jack squat when he had those buildings destroyed"--Drew

If the "buildings" in question were in NYC, there wasn't a Democrat in the Oval Office at the time.

Dave

The Amway stigma is huge. Not even $35million of Devos's own money could overcome the decades of bad press and unsatisfied IBOs.

This looks to be another hit to an alread sinking ship....but the Q* band still plays on....

There was a dem in the oval office when the World Trade Center was bombed, the USS Cole was bombed, 2 US embassies in Africa were bombed, dead US military personnel were dragged through the streets of Mogadishu, and the Sudanese government offered Osama's head. The dim in the oval orifice turned it down.

damned typos.

"There was a dem in the oval office when the World Trade Center was bombed"

Bombed or Destroyed?

I thought the original reference was in regards to Bin Laden and 9/11

On 9/11 there was a Republican in office.

Dave

Take the 9/11 discussion elsewhere guys. The topic is about Devos losing because he is tied to A/Q.

A lot of you may not want to admit to it, but you know deep down inside that the same stigma affecting him is certainly affecting you.

My reference is to the embassy bombings as buildings. But like Doug said we can add all those other attacks on there as well Cole Bombing, Somalia, etc. Dem in the White House and the most that was done is a few missles fired at a camp that did not even have Bin Laden present. Yeah, I am sure he is just crapping his pants at the thought of a Democrat coming after him.

Drew,

I think the biggest arguement that I read about the Michigan election was mainly focused on the economy and the democrat's arguement that Devos shipped Amway jobs overseas to China. From the article I read, it was one of the main points that Devos continued to deny. It was an interesting article in the Michigan online paper.

Michael,

Yeah I know I read all of that stuff as well. I don't think his Amway connection really had any effect on voters. When people vote I don't think a network marketing company is the foremost issue in their mind. I simply asked the question to find out if anyone out there feels it was a big deal.

I am an actual RESIDENT OF MI. I can tell you for a fact that the A/Q stigma greatly affected the outcome of this race IMO. Granholm made darn sure to connect Devos with Amway during her debates - and it worked.

Drew,

Another thing about that article was that it was the "businessman" VS the "Lawyer" and who would better serve the people. It wasn't the "Network Marketer" VS the "lawyer".

It was a VERY interesting and exciting election season to say the least.

Now it's up to the liberals to keep their promises.

I'm almost finished reading Scheibeler's book. It hightlights prominent politicians like Rick Santorum. Thank god, Sontorum as well as Dick de Vos lost, or Michigan will become a big amay cult.

Another politician mentioned in Scheibeler's book was Pombo(Rombo) of California whos lost was highlighted on Crooks and Liars:

Goodbye to “Eco-Nightmare” Pombo

As a Californian and an environmentalist, this was a race I watched very closely. Despite our reputation as being the "far left," it is truly amazing how conservative California becomes as we move away from the shore. Pombo was considered a "safe seat" and his actions have done more to put California backwards environmentally than any other elected official in memory. Pombo's defeat was the sweet cherry on top of the Democratic majority in the House.

Josephs:

Michiganders would never submit to being a big cult. Devos couldn't buy this election which says alot about the people of Michigan. I am sure he could impress a lot of small minded people who put a lot of emphasis on old money, like southerners (like Michael?)

redbird,

I am what you call a northern redneck thank you...

Also watch out who you call small minded too.

Devos didn't impress me much as a political type. I really would have been surprised if he won.

Off Topic:
How on earth can people still be in Amway/Quixtar after they have read Scheibeler's "Merchants of Deception?" Did they think that the book was a practical joke?

Joseph, is your post a practical joke? You have one person writing about his experiences with one tiny group within the world of Amway. You think I should quit even though *nothing* in his book is remotely like what I have experienced in my corner of the world of Amway? Quit because somebody else had a bad experience, despite the enormous number of good experiences I've personally experienced? Quit because of a self-published book that is deceptive in its own right? Scheibler's books isn't a joke, but your post is, Joseph.

I wonder what would have happened if Devos had won????
