Domino's And DeVos
By QBlog in Miscellaneous
The AP reports that the CEO of Domino's Pizza will head Dick DeVos' gubernatorial campaign.
Domino's Pizza Inc. CEO David Brandon will head Republican Dick DeVos' campaign to unseat Democratic Gov. Jennifer Granholm.
Brandon, who lives in Ann Arbor and serves on several nonprofit boards in the Detroit area - including Detroit Renaissance and The Parade Company, which produces Detroit's annual Thanksgiving Day parade - said he wants to help the Kent County businessman improve his ties to the vote-heavy region.

So can you order pizza through quixtar now?
I have just one thing to say:
"What do you want on your Tombstone?"

SeeSpray,
I love how abortion on demand, no choice in schooling, and removing God from all public discourse are not extreme positions.
Hyperbole kicks ass.
P.S. I love that "Hollywood" money is not really considered biased or bad...because they really care.
I think what this means is that I may have a great business opportunity for you. From now on when you want a pizza, buy it from me, and then find other people to buy pizzas from you and so on...and then you get my pizzas, and your people get yours...its almost like...well...how can I best explain it. Oh here...imagine a pyramid...
I hope someone else wins the nomination.
Granholm v. DeVos is a battle where the ENTIRE state of MI will lose. THERE IS NO WINNER!
Kendall,
You pro 'life' folks always crack me up. Wanting to tell me what I can and cannot do with my own body, yet when all these unwanted children are born your party wants nothing to do with supporting them. Tax cuts for the uber rich, and wipe away social programs for the most needy in our society. Oh that's right, just like the DeVos family philosophy, we are all born on equal footing and need no 'leveling', the American dream is alive and can be obtained by all. Pick yourselves up by the bootstraps and make something of yourself ! Unfortunately, I am reminded of the words of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who's legacy I celebrated only yesterday, when he said something about it being extremely difficult to pull yourself up by the bootstraps when you don't even have boots.
I also find it so facinating, your party, the party of 'life' does heavily weigh in favor of the death penalty. Control the womb, don't do anything to equal the playing field, and when the unfortunate fail...well, just kill them. Now, if I wanted to end my own life, oh no, can't do that. Having a terminal condition, or being in a veggitative state for years on end being kept alive artifically, then hey, I can count on cat killer Dr. Frist to come to the rescue, and the president to put everything on hold to fly back into town to stop my feeding tube from being removed.
This is the party of Dick & Betsy DeVos, extreme fundamentalist. Is it what you believe? Hey, good on ya. Enjoy the life of the sheeple. You fit the profile of an Amway distributor perfectly. But guess what? You are not the majority, and my womb will never be controlled by anyone but ME. And the women's clinic I volunteered at...one of the many that terminate an unwanted pregnency, you know the 1M or so per year....whole lot of pro 'life' girls walking through those doors and a whole lot of pro 'life' families paying for that fetus to just go away. Hyperbole? Yeah, Kendall, meet hypocrisy. Hyocrisy meet Kendall. Oh, you already know one another? Big surprise!
And who ever said anything about no choice in schooling? Get your facts straight. You are obviously not from Michigan and don't have insight into what Dick & Betsy DeVos wanted to do to our public school systems. Or, maybe you do feel the gov't SHOULD pay for religious based education? As much as George Bush and all his fundie supporters would like it to be otherwise, this is still America, and the majority support the seperation of church and state. What is fasinating to me are that people like you have no problem with tax payers money going to educate Christian beliefs you support, but oh no, that money is not allowed to go to Hebrew or Muslim schools. Don't even go there with Hindu or Buddist based education! Only 'American' religion. Bone up on the Constitution before you attempt to get into an debate with me on seperation of church and state. And by the way, I am the product of a Catholic education...one that my parents paid for. My tax dollars don't go towards educating any of my own off-spring, but it is money well spent supporting a free public education for all.
Fu, you are next.
While I am not impressed with Granholm, she is by far the lesser of two evils against DeVos or ANY person who has expressed interest in the Republican nomination.
She was left with a huge mess from Gov. Engler, and has had to deal with the worst legislative bodies I have ever witnessed in Michigan.
We are suffering greatly in Michigan, but I don't see Gov. Granholm being to blame for ANY of it. On the other hand, she is not the leader to pull us out of the mess either.
I have personally spoken with members of the DNC about a Dem challenger for her. Unfortunately, the state of Michigan at the level of Gov. is not high on the priority list considering the work that needs to be done in 2006 to bring our federal legislative body back to something the world can recognize as representing the majority of Americans.
I am sick of all the politics! Jessie Jackson or Geogre Bush Jr. have never had a job! Most Americans could care less about either one! Neither party really cares about hard working Americans! All they care about are their ego's! Michigan is in real trouble!
Umm...I hope that people know that is a different 'Ray' than me...cause I SO don't think that! :)
I think Granholm is by far a better choice, and has done an amazing job as Governor given the circumstances she has faced as well as a horribly difficult-to-deal-with Republican state legislature.
But for purposes of this forum, the other Ray shall herefore be known as "Not-Taking-A-Political-Stand Ray"...in order to avoid confusion. ;)

Thanks for proving you are not capable of thinking past bumper sticker mentality.
Got talking points?
Yawn.
"And by the way, I am the product of a Catholic education...one that my parents paid for."
That's very enlightening. I came from a poor family that taught opportunities are everywhere. I worked full-time and went to school full-time. My parents didn't pay a dime. My wife and I saved our money to buy a house, and then another. We tried the Amway/Quixtar business, had some success, but more failures. We took what we learned, borrowed against our house, and embarked on a better business vehicle (Non-MLM) and have prospered. That is of course after not getting paid for a year.
I do believe we all have the same opportunity. I don't believe we all start at the same level though. Some people don't have boots because the left wing tells them they don't have boots. If you tell someone they can't do it on their own long enough, they will eventually believe you. The opposite is also true. The "party of life" is the party that preaches opportunity. If you don't have boots, make some. They may not be perfect the first time, or the second, or third time, but they will eventually be boots.
Now these boots are made for walking, and that's just what they'll do. One of these days... oh wait.
OK, I'm bored with this conversation. I'm going to "bone up on the Constitution" by doing a word search for "separation of church and state." Oh, that's right, it's not there.
It does, however, say:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;"
BTW, I don't give a rat's ass about Michigan politics. I have enough to worry about here in California.
SeeSpray,
You talk about pro-life advocates supporting the death penalty, yet it never ceases to amaze me the number of "pro-choice" advocates who are also vegans and animal-rights supporters, who would never even swat a mosquito, because it's a living organism. Yet it's ok to kill an unborn human, for ANY reason. The irony.
You're correct, the 1m+ abortions do include people with all political viewpoints. It seems you are admitting a lot of these abortions are not due to rape, incest or serious health issues but only about carelessness. Don't worry, electing DeVos won't make abortion become illegal. It's too ingrained in this society.
Too bad your party never has anything to say about personal responsibility.
As for the death penalty, the criminal made the choice to commit a heinous act, thus knowingly forfeiting their own right to life.
By the way, I grew up dirt poor, never accepted a hand-out of any kind, worked for everything I got and became successful. Seems a lot of immigrants to this country, not knowing how to even speak the language, can do the same.
Your advocacy of the type of public education we currently have is laughable. Just read the comments on any web forum and you'll get an idea of the level of skills most people show. No wonder most of the Western world has surpassed the U.S. in just about every arena.
Want to know what I perceive the problem to be. Extremists on both sides so ingrained with their philosphies there is zero middle ground. In some cultures, this leads to suicide bombings. Fortunately, in the majority of cultures, we can agree to disagree and fight each others through voting, voicing our opinions, and through the courts. Still doesn't mean extremism isn't the problem. I just wish there was more room for moderates like me. For the record, I'm pro-death penalty (don't do the crime if you can't do the time) and pro-choice (I'd prefer to live in a world where abortion wasn't a neccessity, but knowing that is not realistic, I feel I cannot tell a woman what she can and cannot do with her body).
Great. Two extreme Christian fundamentalist that believe women should not have control of their own health decisions, homosexuals can be 'treated', public schools should be abolished for 'Christian education', and there should be a place at our table of gov't for religion -- as a mater of fact, the only seats should be those of the extreme fundamentalist beliefs.
Hopefully this choice shows the colors of DeVos to the eastern side of the state -- those who are all very aware of the extreme beliefs of the Domino's founder and his executives. His choice was his conduit to tap into the 'Detroit' money, as the DeVos connections are all western Michigan money, but hopefully this connection will also shed enough light on how extreme Dick & Betsy DeVos are.
