We Have No Titles

By QBlog in Oasis LifeSciences

From Bo Short talking about his Passport business:

We have no Titles!
As an author on books about leadership I have been struck by something very interesting while interviewing great leaders; the more confident they are in their ability, the less concerned they are with titles. I believe that many people in this industry that achieve so-called pin-levels, while hard-workers, are not necessarily leaders. Each of our teammates are called Independent Associates. A leader should be allowed to make an impact immediately, even if they do not wear a fancy title. If it is your business your voice should be heard.

A couple of things to point out. The BoShort.info page is now forwarded to the Ty Tribble directory of MLM Blog. I find that odd.

Also, Short has essentially folded his title-free Passport business to join up with some former Amway/Quixtar friends in the Oasis LifeSciences MLM. And yes, Oasis has titles including the illustrious "Diamond."

In September 2004, Bo Short uses the absence of titles to market his business but in November 2005, titles (however goofy) are fine as long as they aren't Quixtar titles. What a difference a year makes.

We have no titles...and feet, they are in our mouth.

I found an interesting website for the "Montana Success Center. It has "Executive Blue Diamond" Karanen touting the CDs and books of Brian Brio. Guess what? You can get on the weekly CD series to get all the help you need. Two thoughts: 1. Will Executive Blue Diamond Kenanen (who is making EDB income) publically show how he is repaying those he ripped off? It seems to me that integrity demands it. Second, can Mr. Short tells us how Executive Blue Diamond and Diamond in Lifesciences is different than EDC and Diamond in Quixtar. Maybe a man can leave Quixtar, but Quixtar doesn't leave the man.

what is bad with having a title?

Nothing, but if you once declare to stay away from them and then start using them again. Foot in mouth desease.

Titles are fine, but in MLM they continue to be very stupid. E.g. Diamond, pearl, how stupid is that?

Ouch.

And I thought Bo was one of the good guys.

Titles are for edification... period. They serve no other purpose. So they are part of the whole system of cult of confession - charismatic leaders - etc.

I can understand the desire to have titles or levels in a selling organization.

I own franchises which usually put us in the top 15 groups of our franchise system. I have a goal to be in the top ten by June. Beyond the money, there is something about getting to a more elite position that drives people to be more focused and work harder. In my case, it's the title of "top ten." In an MLM's case, it's some other title (Diamond, Emerald, Cubic Zirconia :).

The only problem I have with the MLM titles (I have plenty of other problems with MLM's in general) is when you start stocking the garage or making bad business decisions to hit that title or to please your upline.

Titles should be based on performance. If you were once a Diamond, but no longer qualify as one, your title should be whatever it is you qualify for. It should tell you something when AmQuix has the policy of once a Diamond, always a Diamond. It should tell you that even if you hit that level, the liklihood of you staying at that level is not very good.

Truely it would be pathetic if in my franchise system, once we hit the top ten, that would mean we would stay there regardless of our current profits.
