Make You Happy?

By QBlog in Miscellaneous

I'm out of town again. I'm in Knoxville attending a Job Fair trying to find bright students interested in doing an internship with my employer. During slow times at the Job Fair I pondered the following question:

"How much money would it take to make you happy?"

Do you have an answer? Have you thought about it before? Please post your answer in the comments.

Enough to pay my monthly expenses, enough to give to my church and to be able to save some for my later years. I am currently achieving this comfortably with my J-O-B and I will be retiring comfortably at the age of 55.

I hate to sound like an afterschool special but money can not make you happy. Money can help you fulfill many of your desires but it can not provide you with desires. That being said, for my part I am content to have enough money that I don't have to worry about paying my bills. Now, there are plenty of things I would like to do in life that would require a lot of money. So I guess if the question is "how much would it take for you to do all the things you would want to do?" the answer quite seriously would be several hundred billion dollars. As this is highly unlikely I will be content to accomplish as much as I can. I think if you set some target for hapiness and then you reach it you might well find that it's not what you thought it would be, then where are you? Goals are great, but you should find things to be happy about in your current situation, if there is nothing, make some change, even a small one, to find some enjoyment. Maybe I'm wrong.

$2 k above my expenses, so I can increase my expenses.

Good Post Frankenberry:

I am pretty content with what I have now and I am quite happy that my family and I have been so blessed over the years.

;-)
Wait a minute. QBlog is out trying to recruit a few sharp people and he's asking "How much money would it take to make you happy?" Where have I heard this before...............
:-)

"My employer is looking for a few sharp students..."

Nature (and my bank account) abhors a vacuum. No matter how much money I had I could probably find a way to spend more. My change in perspective came with the realization that we have everything we need and a good bit of what we want already. Life is good.

$4 million dollars is my goal. Then I can retire and be happy.

To echo Frankeberry, if you are waiting for money to make you happy, you never will be. This could be said for anything -- a relationship, a job, a baby, and degree, a possession... if you are living totally for the future and can't be happy in the now, that's who you are. You won't be happy when the thing you were waiting for does arrive because you don't know how to be happy and satisfied with yourself.

No matter how much money you make, the tendency is to spend more. So would making enough to cover my bills make me happy? Yes. But making more money than that, I would probably just increase my bills!

Spiritual happiness aside, enough to pay off the loan I've taken out to clean the credit card bills I racked up thinking I could be a Business Developer showing people how to make people with "Interactive Commerce".

Something like that, anyways :)

(Seriously, that's not a random stab).

pps. Oh yeah, can you email subscribe to comment feeds here without having to post in them?

Hope you Job fair looking goes well. You might do well to get clean up before you go. I thought I would post this here since it is so funny and very true. I found your body doubles today-

You are a lot like a liberal named Micheal Moore. After reading your lines all I could think of was I wonder what this dude looks like.

It is funny but this is how I pictured you. Now you posted your picture. WOW what a simularity. A person who claims to be an American but is only creating consuion and doubt for young people all over this great nation. You guys have a lot in common. Look I found you and Imran's Mugs. Wow there is so much simularity here.

I am glad that you guys got together finally. It was fun watching you however. Most of our assumptions are correct and it was nice to find you guys are more like a singles group that need some help even with the ladies department. You all might do good to read the top 10 relationship books on the book list just to help you find ladies. See the tools system would be good for you in that department. It is funny to watch a group of single guys that are totally obsessed and going no where in life and look the part too. It is funny to see where you all live as well. Sad to think people would listen to people living paycheck to paycheck blasting people that are at least looking to work hard and helping others with something that is possible. It is funny that people might believe a silly web site but now after the whole world gets to see you they can now tell that you are probably not to far from the school of Michael Moore ideology. You guys must be Liberal brothers. They must have a school were they teach liberals how to look. Your pictures line right up with a Double Wide down by the river in Memphis, Tennessee and has no plan to grow from there. You discredit even the Hat you wear. I guess you match Mr. Moore in that department as well since he disrespects Michigan State University by wearing there hat as well. Maybe you should move to Canada and stay there. Just think you would be able to get free medical. Thanks for posting your pictures.

basically, I'd just like to be debt free and living comfortably. I don't need millions of dollars, although I wouldn't mind it either, =) Being debt free would be great cause that's really a big stress factor for most families.

Thanks Paul :) I like my body doubles. Really!

We may live 'paycheck to paycheck' but are man enough to post our pics online. Can you do that? Are you man enough? :D

"Being debt free would be great cause that's really a big stress factor for most families."

That's true, but I've not found many of the "drowning in debt" who are willing to do what it takes be debt-free. I think the types who allow themselves to get in that position would at whatever their income level. They would just increase their buying.

An anecdotal example -- a family of our acquaintance recently had their third child. The wife is constantly whining about how hard it is to work fulltime with a family, how she wishes she could be a stay-at-home mom, how unfair it is to her and the baby that it has to be in daycare, how expensive life is, etc. To put this in context, they just bought a new boat (and a new hummer to tow it) to use at their beach house. They keep it parked at their 5 bedroom house.

On a smaller, and I'm sure more frequent, scale, how many people who worry daily about their debt need cable, a cellphone, the car they are paying on, to eat out as often as they do, etc.?

I'm not saying people shouldn't have more than the necessities, but obviously most people enjoy their lifestyle more than they worry about the resultant debt.

My opinion, suck it up and do what you need to do change the situation or else stop whining about it.

Well Paul, I assure you, at least I'm not retarded enough to be in Amway.

I don't necessarily agree with Michael Moore's views either.

Been happily married 5 years, and I don't live paycheque to paycheque. I guess I must be the first guy ever who isn't in Amway and doesn't live paycheque to paycheque.

"totally obsessed and going no where in life and look the part too." You'd be surprised if I told you my accomplishments. Seriously.

Paul, you are obviously an imbecile who just happened upon here, since Imran IS Canadian. Toronto is in Canada, don't you know?

By the way, you are right about one thing. I myself live in a mobile home, which I rent from the Canadian government. That's because there is nowhere else to buy or rent where I live.

Have fun selling soap and overpriced energy drinks. I'm sure you make millions. After all, your upline says you will, right?

As long as you buy the motivational tools....

shlep.

Wow, that Paul guy is really something!

Michael Moore is not a liberal, he is a filmmaker. Just because he made a film exposing the mismanagement of the Bush administration does not make him a liberal.

Guess what: I am a Republican and a moderate conservative and I can't wait for a new Republican president in 2008.

See, you ambots believe that you have to drink everydrop of XS-KoolAid that is fed to your. Your blindfaith is what gets you into this mess in the first place & it is what compounds your financial losses (from the biz) each and every month.

And Paul (Paulbot?), you have to know that Poorhouse Tony and Mikeybot are feverent ambots on this site -- neither one of those guys have any women in their lives.

So I guess those tools aren't working so well, eh.

QBlog has a wife and kid(s). So, your assumption is wrong.

I don't know what hat you are wearing, but you are doing them a big disservice by associatin their logo with your stupidity !!!

I'd say $2-$4M would be enough to payoff the outstanding debt on my current assetts and give me enought to manage until my 401 and pension kick-in.

I'll get there in the next 15-20 years, but a nice lumpsum today would be nice!!!

Regarding Imrans response:

Thanks Paul :) I like my body doubles. Really!

*************************************************

Paul,

I never want to be the one to say the things like you did but that was good and it apears to hit a cord with many of them. You show a very funny but truthful point. Now that I look at the two pictures side by side I get it. The Truth and comparison can sometimes be very revealing. What is sad and more disturbing is Imran said thank you for the comment like he would endorse Hezbollah's leaders or organization or thoughts. So no wonder these people do not like Quixtar. It stands for everything opposite of these guys. You can see the real view points Imran is endorsing and it is ugly. Thanks for posting Paul. People will see this and understand whats really going on with these guys and there motives behind it.

Paul, that was hilarious. How can you live with in the vigid confines of such a caricature?

If I didn't have to work, I'd love about $5,000 /mo net. Would give me enough to care for family and do good works with my Church

Ah Janet, you do hit a chord :) funny chord that is. I actually laughed at Paul’s response. It is so childish. It is you and Paul whose chord has been hit :D

An example:

"My opinion, suck it up and do what you need to do change the situation or else stop whining about it."

Who is whining?

Does whining = not speaking positive about Quixtar?

Calling job = J.O.B is not whining?

Calling ppl who criticize Quixtar liberals and Hazbullah not whining?

I just don't know where to start finding flaws in your logic.

Regarding me looking like Moore or Hazbullah, what does that mean?

Calling that someone or I look like Bin Laden, Al Gore, Bush, Satan, Jesus, what does that mean?

Is it an insult? Enroll in Prof. DF class to learn that :D

You look like my goat, just so you know ;)

BTW Janet, Hazbullah really likes Quixtar. Amway / Quixtar hurt millions of Americans financially and emotionally. Won’t they love it ;)

Hey you could use that point to prospects once the business launches there.

I think we should hook Janet up with one of the single/socially inept ambots here.

Someone like Poorhouse Tony or Mikebot.

Then they can have completely ignorant, financially-challenged children.

I guarantee those kids would lose every playground fight. Who's gonna back the weird kid drinking XS instead of milk at lunchtime ???

Janet, if you need some 'real men', we'll do our best to hook you up with some awesome/fired-up ambots.

Good idea DF, and if their kids don't like to be 2nd generation IBOs, they can always win special olympics....

DF, ur bud Tony is here

http://quixtarsucks.blogspot.com/2005/10/welcome-ramadan.html

Accusing you of something. Just thought I'll let you know.

Oh, I forgot, Tony can't post here anymore.

What a claass act. Janet, I think we have a winner for you....

Ummm...
There seem to be 2 Janets here. I'm the one who posted first and about not whining but getting things done. Would it change your view of my opinion to know that I, unlike the other Janet, am very anti-Quixtar? I have written before about being prospected by my cousins at my husband's grandfather's funeral and about how much their involvement with BWW has changed those same cousins.

"Who is whining?

Does whining = not speaking positive about Quixtar?

Calling job = J.O.B is not whining?

Calling ppl who criticize Quixtar liberals and Hazbullah not whining?

I just don't know where to start finding flaws in your logic. "

Where on earth do you get those? Certainly not from me. I was talking more along the lines of "stop saying if only I had x amount of dollars more a month I would do this,. Instead get off your butt and find a way to do what makes you happy."

"Janet, if you need some 'real men', we'll do our best to hook you up with some awesome/fired-up ambots."

"I think we should hook Janet up with one of the single/socially inept ambots here."

I honestly have no idea where this animosity is coming from. I was responding to a question that didn't have anything to do with AmQuix. I can only assume that these statements are because you confused me with the pro-Quix Janet and I suggest that you check your own maturity if you are unable to separate someone's message from your perceived image of them. In other words, would you have responded that way to me if you had known I was "anti-Amway."

I am still shocked at how personal and sexist the comments turned. Not good enough debaters or familiar enough with the facts at hand to form an actual argument so you need to say that I need "a real man"? Not doing your message any good there...

I am really disappointed in these responses. I only drop in occassionally anymore, but how sad to see what was once a forum for discussion on AmQuix and AMOs turn into a playground for naughty, ill-mannered children.

If I could only find a way to make $250,000 a year in my spare time, maybe by working 5-10 hours a week for 2-5 years, I WOULD BE SET. Anyone know of such a thing?

A little more!

JanetM, sorry for the confusion, but how was I supposed to know they were two different Janets? :) Your above post doesn't reflect you are anti, (this a different person) else I would have figured it out. It was a neutral post.

I think such mistakes were bound to happen. What if an IBO Imran, Pro Bush, All American post some messages here and IBOs start calling him Hazbollah? :D

Rest of the responses you quoted were not directed to you.

Are you that Janet that wrote marks? Or that was another Janet? This current Janet, I thought was that one at first.

Too many Janets! At least be one one side :D

I can't find the study online (I'm not looking that hard), but I remember reading a report on a poll that asked how much money would you need to make to be comfortable? People from all social structures were asked, from the poor to middleclass to rich, and while the numbers they gave all differed, one thing remained constant between all the answers in all social strata. And that was to be comfortable, they all had to make more then what they were currently making!

Personally, I'd like to make enough to live comfortable (which I am) and to be able to carry a little debt if I want too (which I do). A total "bad" debt (non equity debt) of 15% of your total yearly salary is not necessarily a bad thing. It helps you live beyond your means and buy things you otherwise cannot afford, such as new cars, vacations, or perhaps a new t.v. And with an overall debt of less then 20% of your yearly salary, in theory, you should be able to pay down the debt quickly, if you so desire.

But the financial person in me is rambling, and this discussion isn't about how much debt a person should or could carry, but rather how much money each of us would like to make to feel comfortable. My dollar figure is $100,000/year, which should tell you, I don't quite make that much money yet. But when I do, I'm sure my dollar figure will rise to $150,000 or $200,000/year!

"Your above post doesn't reflect you are anti, (this a different person) else I would have figured it out. It was a neutral post."

Exactly. So it should have been taken on it's own merits rather than thinking that it has to be stupid because it came from an "Ambot". Life is seldom black-and-white, us-versus-them simple, unfortunately.

"Are you that Janet that wrote marks?"

Yes. I kind of dropped off the boards because the vicious, vile email I got because of that reached scary level. Obviously, because I was critical of AMOs, I am an evil person devoid of thought, goals, or parenting-ability.

My husband still calls me "the Stealer of Dreams". He thinks it would be a good superhero.

Paul

What do Liberal and Conservative have to do with anything here? A person's views can not be dismissed just because they hold a different philosophical position. Xandustc is a biblical Christian, Imran is a Muslim, I am an Atheist, despite these differences we are all firmly in the critics camp. Furthermore what do you mean by Liberal? If you mean big government, Bush is easily the most Liberal president since FDR, ergo, Quixtar by espousing a very pro Republican line is a Liberal organization. If you want to drag politics into this, please identify a political position held by a critic and attack it, I don't think you'll be able to though because with the exception of the politics forum, people tend to keep these views to themselves. I realize that many of the QMOs like to wrap themselves in the flag and embrace the Bible, but this doesn't mean that their critics are subhuman, this is a dangerous line of thinking. Also, I think most of us have plans for our lives, some of them are turning out quite well (better at least than the average plugged in IBO). Finally Paul, that crack about Quixtar critics lacking the ability to pick up women, all I can say is "move over Voltaire, a new wit has emerged to thrust you from your pedestal, and his name is Paul".

Janet, JanetM :) I'm getting your point. Here is my point, some times messenger matters, and message gives different meanings depends on who is saying.

I have heard it "Quit whining, suck it up and do something" from IBOs like a millions times. So have you. It goes like "People find excuses and blame others. Suck it up and step out“ It implies stop criticizing Quixtar. That implication is ...stupid IMO. If some one else says it would imply something else. That implication I might agree with. I just have to see what you are getting at, put myself in your shoes, no?

What it your Doctors says you need to lose / gain weight? What if an annoying guy on street says that? Same message, one is a sound medical advice; other is most likely an insult. Would you react the same on both?

And yes, life is seldom black and white. There are some regular PROs I'm in friends with. I don’t like the word “ambot” either.

Finally, thanks for picking up different name. It should be the second Janet since she posted after you.

John D. Rockeffeler was asked how much money was enough

To which he replied:

"Just a little more."

Makes me wonder if he died happy.

Has it always been the case that these hit and run posts occur? Nebraska ibo, arianne, Paul, Janet? Maybe these people are too busy showing the plan to come on here and engage in actual debate. Maybe it's for the best though, their posts are funny enough in isolation. Is Michael the only supporter left who is actually willing to discuss anything? Maybe the supporters listed above will return and have more to say than "you guys are Liberal lazy losers who can't pick up women!" Who knows?

It is the constant presence of unfulfilled desires that drives someone to seek improvements in his life, this is the driving force behind human economic activity. A person should be able to achieve some type of hapiness through all of the ups and downs, but most of us will never be fully satisfied, which is as it ought to be. No matter how rich you are there is always a destination you haven't visited, a book you haven't read, an artwork you haven't commisioned. Having something more to aspire to is the great thing about life. I hope this doesn't seem like a rehash of my earlier post, I am trying to make a slightly different point.

When I was about 21, I took a copy of the Forbes 400 issue, wrote some copy about myself and a small picture and pasted it into the #1 position and then photocopied the page so it looked like I was in the 400 list. I think at the time, the late shipping magnate Daniel Ludwig was in the spot at a paltry 4 Billion.

I think I could be very comfortable and happy with the same paltry amount some 22 years later.

BTW, Florida LOTTO is at 45 million this weekend; anybody want me to pick them up some tickets?

Dave

Scott N > When I was 21, I did the same thing with an Amagram. I put my picture next to my upline diamonds. I never made diamond, but I did become a systems analyst. I work in downtown Sacramento near the California State Capitol building. I guess I'm not a broke loser after all.

Imran;

I do see your point and on rereading my second post, I can see where a quick reading might have thought I was implying that the boat, vacation home and house were products of Quixtar when what I was trying to say was that if you wanted something badly enough the facts just don't... er... I mean, you would be willing to sacrifice for it. In that anecdote, if the wife had wanted to stay home badly enough, the family obviously could have cut back on their lifestyle. Likewise, if someone wants to stop worrying about debt badly enough they will cut out the non-necessities and pay off the debt.

Off to feed a young'un!

JanetM, as long as you are reading this thread, another version of MARKS would be absolutely awesome!

"It is funny to watch a group of (single) guys that are totally obsessed and going no where in life and look the part too."

Like - Amway (sorry, Quixtar) 'IBOs' in their "I'm one of the lucky ones if I make $115/mo" power suits? I see what you mean!

I had no idea Qblog was such a 'neck. Yikes!

'Marks' Janet - I saddens me greatly that you were subjected to such 'christian' conduct as you described. However, if at all a comfort, not 'all' of us here are business/computer jockeys - and I for one would be more than willing to donate time and services (I have a black belt in Pilates - take that, Tony).

Or, you could just put a life size cut-out of Qblog in you window.

Oh,

Plus, I'll never make enough money to be 'happy' - it just eases the stress once in a while. So, why worry about it - it's true, everyone thinks that if they made 'just a little more' it would all be better.

If i had as much as Bill Gates I could be happy I would think. Maybe if my dream is big enough i can someday be the next Bill Gates er i mean Dexter. If i sell enough tapes i can get up when i want and do what i want except on Monday when i have an open and Tuesday when I have a Team meeting and Wednesday when i have to show the plan and Thur you get my point.

If time really is money (as they say) then I would rather have more time on Earth than money in my bank.
