Duck and Cover

By Not QBlog in Miscellaneous

OK, you guys talked quite a bit yesterday about films. Not one of my favorite subjects (you'll notice I didn't mention movies; someone else brought it up), but hey, I'm only facilitating here.

The 1951 Civil Defense film "Duck and Cover" was added to the National Film Registry last year as "culturally, historically and aesthetically significant" motion picture.

If you're too young to remember civil defense drills, this will seem especially hilarious. If you're more of a geezer, I imagine the memory evoked by this film is uncomfortably haunting.

To me, it is simply an amazing example of what we can make ourselves believe ... what we can let ourselves fear.

You suck

Well, that's constructive, Imran.

Knock it off. If you have nothing to say, then saying nothing would be your best option.

PW

I'm not old enough to remember the drills - but I vividly remember the "Duck and Cover" film when I rented the documentary "The Atomic Cafe" a few years ago.

The mention of that film does make me think of growing up as an Army brat, plus there is a film coming out very soon which focuses on growing up military called; "Brats, Our Journey Home"

Any other military brats frequent Q-Blog?

Tangent over.

PW> Knock it off. If you have nothing to say, then saying nothing would be your best option.

Imran> Same applies to you about Quixtar. If not, you are the biggest hypocrite I've ever known.

This guy IS boring as hell. And he sucks big time. I'm expressing my opinion. Is that a problem?

Hahahaha! Imran's right about PW being a hypocrit - this ain't the kiddy play area, NQB signed up for this. It was a little harsh, but he's entitled to voice his opinion, right?

NQB - I would stick to talking about more recent movies, Austin Powers seemed to go over better yesterday...

"Yea, baby... No? Just trying it on".

Actually, I thought NQB's last comment tied together the two topics (Quixtar and 'Duck and Cover') pretty well.

It IS amazing what we can make ourselves believe, to wit:

"I'm going to be the 1%"

"If the dream is big enough, the facts don't count"

"My upline would never misdirect me, cause he doesn't make money til I make money"

"Amway saves marriages"

"I can pay off this debt when I go diamond"

"My kids will thank me later"

I'm sure others can add to the list.

One generation's Duck and Cover film is another's ABC Afterschool Special, or anti-drug film. Speaking of which, the best anti-drug film of all time is Reefer Madness.

Thanks, CK. I thought for a minute there I was going to have to come in and explain any possible connection with Q.

Imran, thanks for pointing out boring and for underscoring the fact that not everyone will "get it" -- better to spell things out explicitly. :-)

NQB> better to spell things out explicitly

Imran> I ran spell check, still mistakes?

Are you DF?

Here's a thought.

How about filming a re-make of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" with Dexter Yager playing Frank N. Furter. Maybe we can get the recently separated Bill and Peggy Britt to play Riff Raff and Magenta.

Trivia: name the actor who played Frank N in Rocky Horror...

and

What movie was he in with Samuel L. Jackson??

Hmm...

Tim Curry.

Now, Imran:

EVERYTHING I say about Quixtar is meant to be constructive to the people who read my post. You and I know more about Quixtar than most people in the US and Canada, and we share that knowledge.

How does "You suck" say anything constructive to the target of your comment or the people reading it?

I expect an apology.

PW

Tony,

The answer is: Tim Curry and the movie he was in with Sam Jackson is Loaded Weapon 1

"Vilderness Girls!"

YES! TD wins the prize!

Did anyone guess my "cold & flu season" quote, or was that another post. How bout this one:

"oh, nothing makes me sadder
than the agent lost his bladder
on the aero-plane."

BTW, if you think he's boring, why not make some suggestions, rather than simply nuking him? You've made yourself available through email. Why not ask that he contact you?

I didn't say that Imran didn't have the right to make the comment he made. I made point that it was cruel and non-constructive and that making no remark at all would probably be better than that. Now I have suggested an alternative.

I'll be happy to let QBlog know how you feel about me and about his choice of someone to handle his blog in his absence. It's clear to me that some of you are extremely presumptuous - that you expect QBlog to run his site in a way that pleases YOU rather than in a way that suits him.

And Tony, you know NOTHING about me. I've been entirely consistent on these boards, and for you to make such a remark about me just shows your ignorance.

I'm done feeding trolls until they offer apologies.

PW

You are write PW, if I could edit my message, I would the second I posted.

You are right PW, if I could edit my message, I would the second I posted.

I was just agreeing with Imran PW - why didn't you go off on HIM for caling you a hypocrit. I was simply agreeing with what Imran was saying: how can You blast Quixtar and IBOs, but then you tell Imran, if he can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all! How consistent is THAT??

btw, anyone know my aero-plane quote?

It's pretty much common knowledge that Tim Curry played Frank N. Furter but I had no clue of any Tim Curry / Samual L Jackson connection.

These days Tim Curry is playing King Arthur in Spamalot, an Eric Idle play "lovingly ripped off" from the movie Monty Python & The Holy Grail.

I called him hypocrite, not hyprocrit.

Tony,

the aeroplane quote is from "Con Air", by Cyrus the Virus...(John Malkovitch)

Jeeze, Tony and Imram are in agreement what is the world coming to?

Some people are different then others in the way they do things (how's that for insight?)
You could look on the bright side, at least something is being posted while Qblog is away. To just yell "you suck" is childish and unproductive.

We all have the "right" to do many things, including acting like spoiled kids sitting in the back of the class PO'ed there is a substitute. However it is neither productive nor courteous.

Tony, there is a huge difference between pointing out that the emporer is naked (citing the inherent flaws of MLM in general, AmQuix in particular), and that his royal court knows he is naked and is in fact benefitting from continuing the deception (calling on the carpet the heads of the various AMOs), and "blast(ing) Quixtar and IBO's".

To simply say "Quixtar sucks", for example, is an opinion with no substance.

To say "Quixtar is a bad opportunity, and here is why I think that, and I'm telling you so that you can avoid the tar pit into which I once sunk" has value.

It's called "constructive criticism", and from what I read, that was PW's beef with the original "you suck" post - not that it was critical, but that it lacked any constructive value.

Tony,

News Flash: Quixtar is not a person. Not QBlog is, you are, Imran is and I am - all of us with feelings.

And I did ask Imran for an apology. You placed yourself in league with him on this.

Now I'm waiting.

Thank you, CK, for understanding and clarifying the situation. You're absolutely right. I never dissuade anyone from having an opinion (It would be stupid to even try.), but when that opinion is devoid of kindness, I point it out in the hope that a different expression of that opinion might be found. It is lazy and cruel not to look for constructive ways of criticizing.

PW

Some stuff said about me is not true. (I'll point out what it is)

PW> BTW, if you think he's boring, why not make some suggestions,

Imran> I never produced content for such a readable blog, so I don't know what it would be. I know that some posts are lame. That's all.

PW> you expect QBlog to run his site in a way that pleases YOU rather than in a way that suits him.

Imran> Am I among these? Looks like I am. If I am than this is a lie about me. I never asked QBlog to run a site the way it pleases me. It’s a great blog that’s why I read it. QBlog maintain a certain quality in this blog. NQB is clearly lacking it. Some of the March of Perceptions guy maintained that quality as well.

I have said "great post" in many of the QBlog's posts. I never said why that post is great, nor I was grilled to explain that.

Also, NQB, here is some 'constructive' criticism, written in this very blog.

http://www.webraw.com/quixtar/archives/2005/03/blogging_101_dont_suck.php
http://www.webraw.com/quixtar/archives/2005/03/blogging_101_you_dont_need_a_blog.php

Hey, why are you all telling ME - Imran made the comments! (gee, I almost feel like a critbot, passing the buck)

Anyways, good point Imran - you're never asked to explain "great post" - but you put a nice concise "you suck" and people want an explanation.

Ah, I could really give a sh!t. I saw the connection he was trying to make, and quite frankly I found it a little boring too.

But he's a big boy, I doubt he's crying to qblog saying he's going to quit - like some of you guys did to your upline after 3 no's in a row. :O

Oh yea, I said it - critbot or amroid, you gotta like That one!

If you don't know what constitutes "content for such a readable blog," how do you improve your own blog?

Also, there are usually several ways to say something. "You suck," might be one of them, but it is among the cruelest.

I have not lied about you. I never suggested that producing content for a blog qualified a person to comment on other people's blogs. I never said that you had to present an alternative, although I suggested it as a possibility.

I never suggested that you said anything to QBlog about running his site the way you thought it should be run, either. But by being so cruel to the person QBlog chose to operate his blog in his absence, you denegrate QBlog's choices. You have not been given any cause or right to do that.

All I'm saying is that you do not have to be cruel. I don't understand what is so difficult about that concept.

Imran, it's only a week! QBlog intends to come back. Can't you tolerate something for a week? Can't you be silent rather than being cruel?

I've had a lot of critical things to say about Amway/Quixtar/MLM, but I don't think I've ever posted anything about anyone that closely resembles "You suck." I'll admit that I've been tempted, but you'll be hard-pressed to find an example of me saying such a thing.

Not QBlog made exactly two blog entries before you chimed in with "You suck." Cut the guy a little slack, or make positive suggestions. You've already admitted you can't do better, even though you run your own blog. So I don't get this defensiveness.

If you don't want to discuss "Duck And Cover" and no one else wants to discuss "Goats," there must be SOMETHING useful or interesting to discuss. Not QBlog posted "Duck And Cover," and there have been, to date, nearly 30 responses. And as close as I can tell, none of them are about "Duck And Cover."

BTW, does anyone know about the Red Scare of 1917 and the U.S. invasion of Russia? Interesting that we were so afraid of the Communists when they had never invaded us.

PW

Also, I challenge you to find a post by me here on the Quixtar Blog, on the Forum or on MLM Survivor where I have referred to anyone as a "-bot" or "-oid."

You won't find it. I've never done it.

So much for hypocrisy.

PW

PW> If you don't know what constitutes "content for such a readable blog," how do you improve your own blog?

Imran> I don't know how. It gets 50 or so hits / day. It's much better when it started, but nowhere near where I want it. If I knew how, I'll be fighting commenter there ;)

This site gets 50,000 hits per day (no idea how many, just scaring Tony and Ron Mitchell)

PW> I never ....

Imran> I quoted what you said. I didn't make it up or altered it. I own what I say.

Did we later have reason to fear the Communists? Or does everyone just love Americans?? :)

Good post otherwise! You almost sound like an IBO with all that, curtious, speak positive, find the good, give room to grow talk. Seems like you learned something while "in the system". No sarcasm, really, I do agree with you. I said the "you suck" comment was a little harsh, thats why I didn't say it, honestly I didn't even think it, I just felt he was a little bland, but I was willing to "cut him some slack".

But I did laugh when I saw that Imran responded with a simple "you suck", and then the proceeding arguments. So in that sense, good job NQB! I can't wait til Topic #3! ;)

Oh, and TD is right again! here's a couple more:

"What if I told you insane was working fifty hours a week in some office for fifty years at the end of which they tell you to piss off; ending up in some retirement village hoping to die before suffering the indignity of trying to make it to the toilet on time? Wouldn't you consider that to be insane?"

(obviously TD is gonna get that one, I just love posting it)

and how bout:
"-are either of you homosexuals?
you mean like flaming?"
-its a standard question
no, we're not homosexuals, but we're willing to learn!
Yea, would they like send us someplace special?
-I'll take that as a no."

I will agree with PW that even though he is critical- he does not resort to name calling. I tip my hat to PW.

I wonder how Qblog will feel when he gets home and sees these posts?

It's like the parents left for vacation and the kids have the run of the place.

Why don't we be more responsible and act like grown ups? This isn't high school where everybody else is wrong and your god and all that. This is real life, and if someone chooses quixtar as their profession, so be it. Just tell YOUR side of the story, and let everyone else have a chance to speak. Isn't that fair enough?

ok, last one to Qblog's swimming pool is a rotten egg!!!!

There sure is a lot of bickering going on here. It all sounds really petty. If your feelings got hurt, suck it up. Be a man, forgive and forget. I think we can have a good debate/conversation without QB.
I would tend to agree with Imran's assessment - there is some room for improvement. And I think NQB needs to step up to the plate and deliver. Relying on a bunch of bickering bozos for a topic is not a good idea. If I offended anybody with that last comment, suck it up - I'm a bozo too.
Hey NQB - why not find something (anything) Q related we can have a real argument about.

Since movie quotes seem to be a running theme - here's a great one for Quixtar:

"Haven't you ever heard of suspension of disbelief?!?!"

Name that movie.

Looks like I'm the only military brat here - oh well, worth a shot.

Bruce,

I believe that quote is from "Ed Wood".

And since no one has jumped on the last ones Tony quoted they are:
"Con Air" (again) and "Stripes", respectively.

How about this one:
"Get out of my way son, you're usin' my oxygen."

One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest

how bout:
1)
"Get OFF - the Nuclear - Warhead!"

"I just wanted to feel the power between my legs"

and #2

"Man look at this hat. Huh, you buy a hat like this I bet you get a free bowl of soup.... Hey, but it looks good on you!"

since we are on the subject of movies, I can proclaim that I can watch the entire movie "fargo" without an interpreter...

OH YAAAAA doncha know eh?...

'Oh, jeez'... ;)

Well, as the resident "geezer" - I can assure you that I participated in Air Raid drills and it scared the he!! out of us. It's not good for kids to grow up wondering when a bomb will be dropped on them....

My Grandfather, in his desire to save the family, put a genuine Amway Bomb Shelter (wonder what the shipping would be on one of those babies???) in his backyard. Made a great place for us grandkids to play "submarine" and I can still remember the musty smell of being 15 feet underground.

Deb

Ok I have a new idea.

Lets guess who is "Not QBlog"

I bet some of us would know the person otherwise.

I have a guess, but I'll tell it to QBlog only. Some safe guesses are

1) Wood tang guy
2) Ken McDonals (guy is free now)
3) Scott Larsen?
4) You boy fleak
5) Mayor McCheese

That's FAR more constructive, Imran.

:-)

Thanks.

PW

Is it you PW?

Or I bet it's Janet, the Marks writer?

Imran,

that was a new idea? I thought I posted that question earlier on another post?

My ideas of who Notq might be is one of three things. One who has pinch hitted for qblog before, or could be a female, or could be a trusted IBO. Since I know it's NOT the trusted IBO, it could be the female we all know, or I was also thinking it was Wood Tang possibly..

It's definitely a female. Nah it's not the wood tang guy. It's not DorothyStillInOz, could be Wendy

Dawson> Jeeze, Tony and Imram are in agreement what is the world coming to?

Imran> Wait till I post the list of Quixtar only Diamonds.

It's Imran btw. Imram means dady.

Imran,

The Mayor's Office categorically denies being involved in any aspect of the production of Quixtar Blog, aside from posting comments only the Mayor thinks are funny. The Mayor's Office has never been, and never will be, a guest blogger on Quixtar Blog, as such would represent a conflict of interest.

The Mayor has posted here advocating naming the Fish Ladder in Grand Rapids after Jay Van Andel, and will continue to do so.

Imran:

You think you have everybody here fooled, but you forgot about one person - MUAH!!!

As a fellow follower of WWE happenings, I happen to know exactly what you meant by the term "You Suck".

Any Kurt Angle fans out there? :-)

THANK YOU!!!

Crowd singing with Kurt Angle olympic theme, "You suck, you suck......"
