Alternative Weekly

By QBlog in Miscellaneous

Why do Quixtar Employees and IBOs read this blog? Does it make them laugh? Cry? Angry? Do they read it because they secretly agree with me or maybe because they love to disagree? Or perhaps (and I hope this is why) they read it because it's just a damn good blog and they appreciate quality writing even if they don't always agree with the expressed opinions? Maybe.

Most large cities have at least one daily paper and what's commonly referred to as an "alternative paper." The Alternative Newsweekly in each city is generally published as a tabloid (while the daily is usually broadsheet) and has a habit of taking shots at the local daily.

I work for the local daily.

The "alternative weekly" in my area hits newsstands every Wednesday. I make a point to pick up a copy each week and the first thing I read is the column that takes shots at my employer.

Why am I so eager to read the "bash the local daily" column? Is it because it makes me laugh? Sometimes. Cry? Never. Angry? On occasion. Is it because I secretly agree with the criticisms? I agree at times but disagree just as much.

The reason I regularly read the "bash the local daily" column is that it's about me. Ok, it's not really about ME (well, once it was about me) but it's about something that consumes a large portion of my life and creative energy. It's about something that I know a lot about. It's about my friends, colleagues, associates, bosses, etc.

Even when it's critical (and it usually is) and even when I don't agree, I still like to read the column because... well, because it's about something I know.

So, why do Quixtar Employees and IBOs read this blog, even though this blog is often critical of what they do? Maybe for the same reasons I read the "alternative weekly." Maybe this blog is the equivalent of an "alternative weekly" to Quixtar's local daily? What do you think?

Hey Qblog,

I think you nailed it.

Back in my old hometown of Columbus, MS we have the daily Commercial Dispatch owned by the same family that owns the local TV affiliate. Also most people "in the know" buy the Sunday edition of "your" paper.

But we also have the weekly tabloid style Columbus Packet written by Roger Larsen. (which is sometimes why I confuse the Amquix Larsen and call him Roger)

Everyone complains about what the Packet publishes but EVERYBODY buys it to read.

Your analogy is "spot on".
(Sorry, I've been watching those Hells Kitchen shows)

I think Quixtar employees read this site for a different reason than IBOs do. In fact, I believe (with no factual evidence) that a larger percentage of employees read this site than IBOs, simply because there's no one telling employees that "reading negative" will ruin their business.

Yes, employees and IBOs read because we discuss something that is about what they do, but IBOs read to find cracks in our armor. Employees read for knowledge of what is being done in their name.

I've said it on the board, and I'll say it here: Quixtar was founded as a legitimate business, manufacturing and selling household products. Its corporate and sales leadership have corrupted it into something it was never intended to be, and the corporation's top brass are now fully complicit in that metamorphosis. (They had the opportunity to stop it and did not.)

IMO, Amway/Quixtar could be salvageable, but I don't know if it could survive the attempt. I think employees are very concerned about that. I don't know if IBOs fully grasp the relationship between themselves, their leaders and the corporation. They do and say things that are contrary to the perpetuation of the business that is supposed to fulfill their dreams.

All of this makes for compelling reading.

Qblog,

I am just making a play on words here and being as sarcastic as I possibly can, BUT,

I read this blog because it's the online version of the bathroom tabloid.

Dear Person, who doesnt know shit about the business:

I sat down at my computer, got on line, and read your stupid letter, OH! Im sorry "BLOG". Not because I have a secret pleasure for seeing somebody bash my business, who probably isnt motivated enough to wipe his ass properly. But because I wanted to see just how drasticaly
our society has changed. What I mean by that is, critics like you are not looking at the big picture. I believe in this business 100%. Saying I know everything about this business would be a lie though. I want you to think for a moment, if that is possible, about how things used to be 40 or 50 years ago. think about how businesses used to be ran, and then think about how they are ran now. Do you enjoy going into Lowes to get something simple, and it takes 45 minutes to find because the employee's could really care less if you find it or not? Big businesses like that do not make a lot of money because there employee's care about the costumer, but because they sell cheap products. Moreover, they are able to sell cheap products because they dont pay there emplyee's too care. Any big business like Lowes, Wal-Mart, or Target that say they do... are LIERS! Personally, I would rather order my products on-line and make money doing it, even if I only make 8$ a month.
Anyhow, thats enough about that. I could go on for days about why uneducated people like you should be dragged into the street and flogged, for publishing unevident inexplicable garbage about a business that would require him or her to peal there ass up off their computer chair or couch and go out and make his or her dream come true. I say uneducated because, ( and here is the big picture again.) this business isnt all about making money or making dreams come true. For me, it has shown me alot about how business works, and has helped my marriage grow. Because if your having problems in your marriage, lets face it, 130$and about 200$ in books and CDs is a hell of alot cheaper then divorce court. Is it not!? Sense I started MY BUSINESS my wife and I have become inseprable. We work together as a team to build the business. And that is as they say "priceless"

Sincerely Get A Clue,

The So Called Shmuk

eat me, you really should go check your grammar before calling anyone uneducated. This website is not about bashing anyone's business, it a forum that provides information to people who favor and people who oppose the amway/quixtar opportunity. You say that you make $8 a month buying stuff on the internet, that's all good but how much did you lose buying tapes and attending seminars?? After your net losses, you would have been better
off panhandling or working for minimum wage. It's okay to have an oppsing view here, but please back up your success claims with hard facts and numbers, then you won't meet so many people with harsh opposition to your viewpoints. Have a nice day.

df asked me a question about if I hang my head in disgust at what some of my "cronies" say at this site, such as Tony, or Em or Mikey...well not baout them...but this Eat Me guy, disgusts me.

And just to clarify when he says "this business isnt all about making money or making dreams come true."

I could NOT DISAGREE more with that statement if I tried.

Eat Me> Do you enjoy going into Lowes to get something simple, and it takes 45 minutes to find because the employee's could really care less if you find it or not?

Imran> If it take you that much time to find some thing, you should run in Special Olympics. I find employees quite helpful in Wal-Mart etc. In 3,4 words they point me to the right row (ail?). They don't hug or kiss me but I really don't want them to. If they do that will be included in the $$ I pay.

And making Quixtar shopping cart is time consuming as well.

Eat Me>I could go on for days about why uneducated people like you should be dragged into the street and flogged, for publishing unevident inexplicable garbage about a business that would require him or her to peal there ass up off their computer chair or couch and go out and make his or her dream come true.

Imran> Ha! You come here urself. QBlog never prospected you in malls did he? You are posting in his blog, and crying for.......what? It his blog, and he can publish what the hell he likes. You gotta a problem? Sue him. He is using his first amendment right. You have a problem? Leave America. I like America mostly because of this.

Dude, there are following characteristics of Quixtar Pros, with few exceptions like David:

1) They comment anonymously
2) They bash blogger to post negative about Quixtar
3) They tell blogger to do something positive
4) They don't argue any thing, but resort to adhominem personal attacks.

So, Quixtar is definitely not a cult eh!

Eat Me> how things used to be 40 or 50 years ago.

Imran> 50 years ago Amway associates used to sell products to customers. Now they buy for themselves and teach others to do the same. More than 50% of them quit every year. Total number of IBOs is less than what used to be in 1970. Amway is older than wal-mart, but no where near wal-mart revenue.

Seriously, run on Special Olympics.

Imran,

"Special Olympics"

That was so funny I almost woke the kids, I was laughing so loud. But you nailed it. This 'eat me' guy is a riot. I hope he posts more.

Sorry Dave. I'd be disgusted too. But I still hope he returns.

Eat Me Said : "publishing unevident inexplicable garbage"

I suggest you read some more of this Blog. Go back to the beginning of the archives to get an idea of where this whole thing started.

"I want you to think for a moment, if that is possible, about how things used to be 40 or 50 years ago. think about how businesses used to be ran, and then think about how they are ran now."

Eat Me you nutbar, the way things ran 40-50 years ago changed because consumers created change with their shopping habits. Obviously people wanted lower prices instead of some person holding their hand while they walked around the store. It's called evolution.

While your marriage gets better and better with the use of books and CD's made by people who are NOT marriage counsellors and who have NO clue what your particular situation is, remember this. You got into this as a business. Not as marriage counselling. When you show the plan do you tell people that you will fix their marital problems?

I wouldn't if I were you. You'll probably get your ass kicked.

David, that "Hell's Kitchen" rocks! Because you like it, you rock also.

Guys,

Me thinks "eat me" is Tony in Discuise(sp?). Eat me, quit making US IBO's look bad.

Uh, Qblog would know if I was "Eat Me" - when I posted as "Honestly" once he pointed it out in minutes. Also, I'm not married. So, no Mike, I'm not "Eat Me".
Thanks for thinking of me though ;)

Mikebot"...quit making US IBO's look bad."

Looks like AQ should qualify their prospects instead of taking any idiot looking to get rich quick.

Mike, I don't think even YOU can refute that. You & your company have major image problems (see: numerous name changes, this blog, etc.).

One would think that you guys could find a way stop some of the internal conflicts created by the cretins that populate your LOS.

Guess not. Greed is a helluva drug....

Well if all companies took great measures in keeping idiots from getting in, you'd be out of a job df.

And I'd like to point out you are even more deceptive than you make us IBOs out to be: "numerous name changes" - what's that? A LIE! So some IBOs used to be in Amway, then Quixtar - so even if that was a "name change" - its one! ONE!! But I count it as ZERO. Alticor is the parent company of Amway, always has been! Its also the parent company of Quixtar - I don't count that as a name change, LET ALONE "numerous name changes"!!

Why are you lying to make us look bad?? Will you say ANYTHING to discredit us? Who can trust you then? Who can take any critbot serious, when its obvious that most just harbour bitter feelings? Not me.

Eat me> I hate going to Lowes and spending 45 minutes there because some Quixstar person is asking me if I am all about keeping my options open. This has happened 3 times in the last couple of weeks at, yes, Lowes and other stores. They never say that they are with Quixstar, but some google searching has proven they are. They always want to get the families together to sell their business...oops I mean hang out. If you guys think Lowes is such a bad place, quit going there, so the rest of us don't waste our time listening to you all when we could be in and out with a less expensive product than Quixstar offers.
