Blogs In Perspective

By QBlog in

I'm reading Biz Stone's book cleverly titled "Who Let the Blogs Out? : A Hyperconnected Peek at the World of Weblogs." It's a really good book so far, mainly because it says exactly the same stuff I've been saying for nearly two years. One particular quote at the beginning of the book explains blogs wonderfully:

"...just as the Macintosh (computer) made personal computing available to everyone, so blogging opens web publishing to the masses."
I know some folks don't believe blogs are revolutionary or powerful but some folks also believed that personal computers were a dumb idea.

I'll bet Dan Rather and CBS believe that blogs are powerful.........

Personal computing was made popular by Microsoft. Mac is still too expensive for a normal user and don't support many good and important apps.

Yeah I know MS is evil, but I need to use it.

"Mac is still too expensive for a normal user and don't support many good and important apps."

That's kind of dumb. I've used Macintosh since 1988, and the only thing you can do on your Windows machine that I can't do on a Mac is burn karaoke CDs. Big Whoop! I can do word processing, spreadsheets, databases, CD/DVD authoring, video, audio, graphics, financial, animation, web design, browsing and more. I don't know which "normal and important apps" in Windows are not available on the Mac or do something that cannot be done in a Mac equivalent. Many apps are made for both platforms.

If you're going to tell me how much programming you can do on your PC that I can't do on my Mac, just understand that most people could care less about programming. Usually, they have a job that needs to get done, and whatever machine will get it done is the one they will use.

That's why I've stuck with my Mac for all these years. I enjoy doing what I do with my computer, without the programming hassles and virus attacks. I have not yet found the interest or the time for blogging, but if I wanted to do it, my Mac wouldn't be a hindrance. Right now, I barely have the time to *read* very many blogs, much less keep one of my own. I firmly believe that if you are going to start a blog, you should do it right - particularly not letting it sit for long periods of time between entries.

I certainly see the value and the power of blogging.
