Sitting Here

By QBlog in

I'm sitting here in the relative silence of my TV Room typing another boring blog post on my aging laptop. Our diet-immune black and white cat sits across the room, noisily licking herself as she plots to take over the world (that's what cats do you know, good thing they sleep so darn much). The hard drive on the TiVo makes a soft whirring sound as it records "Seinfeld" or "ER" or maybe "Kim Possible." And now that I think about it, should that hard drive be whirring like that? Or maybe it's the fan I'm hearing. Fans are suppose to whir, right?

The rest of the family is asleep, stricken by a streptococci infection. I fear that my throat is next on that nasty bacteria's hit list. I just plucked an apple from the fridge because an apple a day keeps the doctor away and maybe it will keep streptococci away too. I've also found that apples make a great snack.

In my opinion, apples are the greatest fruit in the fruit kingdom (do fruits have a kingdom or is it more of a representative democracy?). They are juicy but not too juicy (like watermelons). They don't require peeling (like bananas) and can be held comfortably in one hand (unlike grapes). Their texture is pleasant to bite into (unlike peaches) and they aren't very fragrant (unlike oranges). Yes, apples are truly wonderful fruits. And why shouldn't they be? Johnny Appleseed made quite a name for himself with those tasty fruits. Could you imagine celebrating Johnny Pomegranateseed or Johnny Orangeseed? Me neither.

And the clock just struck so I guess it's time for me to think about getting off to bed. I think I may start reading my new Carl Hiaasen book, "Skinny Dip." I heard it's great.

Good night.

QBlog,

Yep, that's the Tivo fan whirring. It was so loud that I had to take mine out of the bedroom.

I hope you're able to avoid the dreaded strep. And I hope your family gets well soon.

Take care and be well.

Say hello to ur cat from my cats. My cats actually have taken over the world. World just don't know it yet.

My cats are releasing a tape to help other cats take over the world. They are too darn lazy to conduct a seminar. Price of the tape should be a can of cat-nip.

Cats-motto: Flush the stinking dogies.

I would say that peaches, pears and plums should be seated on the right and left hand sides of the apple. They all start with the leter P and they arent as tough as apples to bite into. So someone with bad teeth like myself has a hard time with apples, because they can get stuck between my teeth. I prefer something with a softer bite.

Currently watching "Supersize Me". Anyone else seen this film? What did you think?

Has that been released onto DVD already! I've been waiting.

I understand completely about the cats.

I found this website to be most helpful:

(Not a family-friendly site, but very very funny.)

RE: Supersize me

No, haven't seen it, but it's a pet peeve of mine.

The problem, IMO, isn't the food, it's the lack of exercise and self-control. The outtakes I saw from the film were very "McDonald's is the bad guy'...and as a result of that film, McDonald's has promised to do away with 'supersize fries'. I love supersize fries! I can split just one among my four kids, and it's a lot cheaper than ordering two large fries.

After the film came out, a consumer group did a study. They fed two fairly active adults, one male and one female, the same diet that the filmmaker ate, and increased their aerobic activity by 30-45 minutes a day. BOTH participants LOST weight in that month.

I'm a distance runner. When I'm in training for a marathon, I suck down about 3,500-4,000 calories a day. I'm 5'7" tall, weigh 127-130 lbs, and have 11% body fat. I come from a family of fat, sedentary people, and have been very fat myself after having babies (175!).

It annoys me that my choice to buy supersized fries is now taken away due to pressure from people who don't want to take responsibilty for their choices.

But it doesn't annoy me near as much as the actual lawsuits against companies like Nabisco (they MADE you feed your fat kid two pounds of Oreos a week?!?!?!?!).

How was the film?

CK, the thing with McD is it don't say whats iin their food. That was the point in that movie. Ppl deserve to know how much calories they are eating.

Imran,

They don't post it in the restaraunt north of the border?

The McD's by me all have nutrition charts posted on the wall near the condiments. I think a super-sized fry has like 675 calories and 35 grams of fat. Those signs have been up for years, and you can go to their website, too.

But, to me it's kinda like cigarettes...they called 'em coffin nails long before the surgeon general required labelling...anybody with a lick of sense knew it wasn't good for you. Same with the fast food. Whether it's 600 calories or 750, or whatever, deep-fried potatoes covered in salt is not healthy.

Pass the catsup...oh, and malt vinegar...I really like SALTY fries with malt vinegar!!! ;)

Kim Possible huh? What a ravishing knockout, especially for a female cartoon character! (my nephew watches it on saturday mornings when I've been over the in-laws). I would say that's the type of real life chick that every guy dreams about.

I agree with CK, but you probably should watch the movie. After watching the film, I thought, "what was the purpose of this film"? Was it to increase awareness of the fast food industry? Was it an attack on McDonalds? Was it to increase awareness of the lack of healthy lifestyles in the US? All of the above?

Our nation is going backwards when it comes to healthy lifestyles, I will agree with that, but it comes down to the choice of the individual. People don't make health a priority, and so they justify doing other things instead and then saying that they are too busy.

As an IBO, it helped me to see the need for nutrition and excercise, and I am more motivated now than ever to introduce people to the line of Nutrilite, Trim Advantage and XS products. Then people can get optimal levels of nutrients in a way that is easy to fit in anyone's lifestyle. But no matter what, people definitely need to get more excercise and start eating healthier.

Any other reviews of this film?
