Does Quixtar Need A Map?

By QBlog in

We all know that "Quixtar is Alticor's primary business opportunity company for North America" (source Alticor.com) right? Quixtar has been dubbed (by some) as the "online version of Amway" and the common understanding is that Quixtar took over the North American Amway operations sometime in 1999 or 2000 (do a Google Search for "Quixtar North America").

However, what many may not realize is that Quixtar doesn't exist in Mexico and many (if not all) of the Central American countries. The Alticor owned business opportunity in those countries is known as Amway. And, if you consult your handy map of North America you'll discover that Mexico is on the North American continent. In fact, there are more countries in North America that don't offer Quixtar than countries that do.

I know, I know. There's not really any significance in this little pet peeve of mine. Nobody has ever said (to my knowledge) that Quixtar is Alticor's primary business opportunity company for ALL of North America and that's how Alticor's statement is technically true, if not somewhat misleading. It sort of implies all of North America but never says it. I guess I could say I run a business opportunity for the United States and be correct even if I neglected to mention that it's not available in Alabama or Alaska?

Anyway, I just thought it was funny and today's Sunday so I'm in that funny mood.

Ahhh, its just a lot of Rah Rah Sis Boom Bah

Come on its an American tradition to be so narrowly focused. Just think about the World Series for a second. How can baseball get away with calling it the world series when only teams from 2 countries are eligible to play!

Good point Tradition.

But you gotta admit, it's funny... just a little... right?

I have to agree on it being more of a US narrow-mindedness and not just a Quixtar issue. I've worked and traveled in Mexico often and one things my friends from that region of the world pointed out to me is this idea that people in the US have ‘high jacked’ the word, American. They brought to my attention that we are all Americans. No matter if you live in Canada, US, Mexico or any place in Central or South America. We come off pretty ego centric calling ourselves Americans and only referring to the US. That is one reason when I’m traveling and people ask where I am from I say the “states”. This is the term most people in the Europe and South America use to describe us. As far as Quixtar is concerned, to properly look at this issue we would need to look at the bigger picture which includes our ego centric society as a whole.

Hey ..love the new site!!! Keep up the good work. I'll send you text sometime. If you're home at any time we'll have to meet up for a pint in the Crown again. Have a good one
