Randy Haugen Speaks

By QBlog in

As some bloggers have reported, Randy Haugen (of certain fame) has announced the "formation of the new Wilson Organization LLC" to apparently solve some problems with the tool business. Haugen's audio message comes as a sort of response to the Dateline NBC story about Quixtar that aired in May 2004.

The message is actually pretty encouraging. Haugen outlines some of the ways his group and the new LLC are working to improve the Motivational Organization and even acknowledges that criticisms can help improve his business. As I listened to his positive message of change and growth and leadership, I couldn't help but like the guy. Not that I ever disliked him but I guess it's just encouraging to hear such optimism.

And maybe that's why the last minute or so of his message struck me as being especially odd. Within less than 90 seconds, Haugen made no less than seven "violent" remarks aimed at his detractors (whoever they may be). Now, before you make assumptions, I realize that his remarks were metaphorical. Haugen was NOT directing anyone to violence and anyone who thinks otherwise is wrong. However, what I'm pointing out is the tone of those final 90 seconds.

I'm not a psychologist but I do understand the importance of words and how choosing certain words over others can reveal a lot about the speaker. As I listened to Haugen a second and third time, I wondered what he was feeling as he spoke those words. Why did he choose such aggressive phrases at the end of his message? Was he furious or just trying to motivate his team like a hard-nosed coach? I'm not really sure and I admit that I'm possibly making something out of nothing.

So, here's your chance to tell me what you think. Listen to the audio and let me know if you think I'm just too sensitive or if you agree that there's something odd about Haugen's tone. I debated whether I should even make this post or not but that little blogger voice said, "follow your instincts." Well, now I'm following those instincts, for better or worse.

Here are the "violent" phrases and the approximate time they are said in the audio:

"Kick butt" - 00:06

"Kick their teeth down their throat right in front of their face" - 00:15

"Kick butt" - 00:25

"Fight the fight" - 00:44

"Kick butt" - 00:47

"Kick some butt" - 01:14

"Let's cram it right down their throat and make this happen" - 01:26

IMHO- This is not a big deal at all. It sounds to me like he is just trying to motivate people.

Oh boy! He is talking EXACTLY like a wrestler who has just lost his belt and trying to convince the audience it was bad referee decision…

Loving it! C'mon dude, lets kick some butt.

IMHO, one mention of kick butt is motivation, and is enough. Repeating it 5 times in a minute is something else....

This is just punk talk. It's not even eloquent.

BTW, who ever called anyone a loser? Why do these people have such a complex about being called a "loser?" I haven't called anyone that, and I was on the Dateline program! Vicki didn't. I haven't even called people who quit the business losers, even if that's what IBOs and their leaders do...

hmmm...

PW

I agree with caleb. It sounds like he's trying to motivate people. Not much energy though. Where's the enthusiasm? I think he should have added a few "Paddle the canoe! Paddle the canoe!" statements like our buddy Orrin.

Oh YES!!! Someone else found the "PADDLE THE CANOE! PADDLE THE CANOE!!" funny besides me.

As far as the guys who try to hide the tools profits, I do agree that something needs to be paddled, and it ain't a canoe.

Anyways, the man sounds like he's trying pretty hard to convey the message that everyone who's not involved is crazy.

My thought is if you have a kick-ass product or service at a reasonable price, it doesn't take much to move it, and you don't have to be convinced to kick butt.

The product or service will kick butt on its own merit, not because a person who's already moved a great deal of it convinces you to.

But that's just me:)

When I read the transcript, and the repetitive "kick butt", I wasn't struck by the terrible redundancy. You have to actually listen to it to realize that this speech is remeniscent of a kindergartner who has learned a cuss word. He repeats it for the shock value, but it really has no meaning rolling off his lips.

I chuckled over the continued use of the 'us vs them' paradigm. "Kick their teeth down their throat"? Whose teeth? Whose throat? Even your detractors aren't really a competitive force...it's not like I'm out there offering a different brand of laundry detergent.

So how are "the naysayers" an enemy? Well, they are the enemy of the Haugens/Yagers/Britts of the world because one or two of their minions or potential minions might hear us and ultimately heed our warning. That's a few less standing order tapes and FED tickets they can sell.

But we, the 'detractors', are not the enemy of the hapless downline. They just want you to believe that, to keep the books and CDs rolling out and the cash rolling in.

How about me and my good friend Qrush find a few of you Commie Liberal Critics and kick your butt.

How about your friend QRush show his identity, and turns the comments feature on. Who is hiding and who is not, thats the question.

I listened to the recording again and picked up on what Jason said before I read his comment. It doesn't sound like Haugen really believes what he is saying. At one point he says: "We are going to make this thing real". What is that supposed to mean? Wasn't it supposed to be real before the Wilson LLC?

Hey RH,

Keep paddling the canoe man, because if you call everyone that doesn't agree with whatever the leaders say a commie liberal, I'm sure you'll have more than your fair share of scraps to get into.

When you have something intelligent to add to the conversation, feel free. It's comments like that which simply solidify the bristled back mentality of the people who participate in this business. No need to get your back up over stuff like this. It's a discussion, not a trial.

You'd have a lot more of a voice if you explained why he used the choice of words that he did, and rationalize it to help us better understand the point he's trying to make. Does the truth not help your position?

Unfortunately for the Amway folks, the facts usually bring out the truth

But that's just me:)

I listened and agree w/Ty. He sounded like a dejected man trying to convince the passengers of the Titanic that it's just a little water.

Where does "kicking butt" fit into the aforementioned pulpit of 'Quixtianity'.

To me, this is just another contradiction in a long history of contradiction and corruption.

I don't know if this fits this particular topic, but Randy Hausen is a diamond involved in profits generated from books, tapes, and seminars. I apologize for the lengthy post, but take a quick look, I think its worth a read, especially given the topics of discussion here.

I was reading Ray Kroc's "Grinding It Out, The Making Of McDonald's"

Quite often you'll hear a die-hard Ambot refer to success stories such as Kroc's, and I found the following paragraph to be quite interesting, and it involves Kroc writing about the systems that were set up for McDonald's franchisors in the beginning:

"One of the basic decisions I made in this period affected the heart of my franchise system and how it would develop. It was that the corporation was not going to get involved in being a supplier for its operators. My belief was that I had to help the individual operator succeed in every way I could. His success would insure my success. But I couldn't do that and, at the same time, treat him as a customer. There is a basic conflict in trying to treat a man as a partner on the one hand while selling him something at a profit on the other. Once you get into the supply business, you become more concerned about what you are making on sales to your franchisee than with how his sales are doing."

Evidently Ray Kroc has far more ethics and intelligence (and success) than any Amway diamond, and it's very obvious that he would likely not agree with what they do.

Gee, I wonder why?

But that's just me:)

If you have listened to him in the past he uses that all the time just not as much in a shorter time.Maybe they are going to start having everything downloadable and free like Bo.Maybe they are going to have conference calls, chat rooms and lower the price of products.LOL!No they won't.The one thing about common sense is it's not very common!I got to get my moneys worth out of all them sayings I heard at them functions.

When is Bo Short going to come clean and answer the questions Qrush has asked? And why again are we talking about McDonalds? Seems that we should be discussing Subway.

I have addressed a handful of the goofy rumors on my blog at www.mlmblog.net

Sanders,

While I can't claim to speak for anyone but myself, it is difficult to respond to any blog post such as qrush's when comments are disabled on that blog. Besides - with qrush hiding behind an alias and constantly refering to himself in the third person (most people refer to themselves using the term "I" more frequently then their alias), how can you expect qrush be taken very seriously?

As for McDonalds / Subway, this probably came up due to listening to IBO's when they try to sell "the plan". I've often heard reference to McDonalds and Ray Kroc in the pitch. I've never heard one single reference (beyond your post) to either Subway or Fred DeLuca while someone is showing a plan.

Insanely off-topic, but I'm beginning to dislike Marks more and more. And it has nothing to do with the imbicilic look at network marketing it has. If the author (I'm assuming a selfish bitch of a woman) starts to glorify adultery, I can't say I'm ever going to finish reading this thing.

Then again, none of the characters in this story, save for Teri, strike me as real. Too preachy. Sounds a lot like the author is this Teri and she's writing a story hwo she sees it or thinks she sees it but can't explain it without writing in these fantasies of Luke Skywalkers and Darthvaders. Characters that reek of too much cliched emotional sacks that they can't possibly be real and, even if they are, extremely isolated.

I'm ranting unintelligable sentences right now. Maybe when it's not so bloody late in the evening, I'll write up a review of what I've read so far.

Your blog loses brownie points, either way.

Aha. But you ARE reading Dwighty and there's something to that... though I'm not sure what.

Dwighty, in your words:

"Then again, none of the characters in this story, save for Teri, strike me as real. Too preachy."

Counsel upline, you'll find them.

Sanders,

I just felt it to be very ironic that Ray Kroc is so well regarded by any Amway guy that spoke of success stories, yet, their leaders do exactly the opposite of what this man did in regards to treating their partners as customers.

They are more concerned with you buying tools than you moving product.

Do you see how it relates? I sure do.

Dave:

What? Qrush is hiding behind his Qrush identity and you think that is wrong yet you comment on this blog when the owner of the blog calls himself Qblog. So that must mean Qblog is his real name right? He must have gotten picked on in school a lot with a name like that.

And as for comments, I'm not a big fan, even though I'm commenting here. It must be a lot of work for Qblog to manage comments. I have seen this get out of control quickly.

Just one more point about comments being turned off/on.

Bo Short's comments are turned off and he is calling it a blog!!! So here are my questions:

1. Does this mean he cannot be taken seriously?
2. Have the blog police been notified?
3. Will this behavior send him straight to hell?
4. What is he afraid of?

Do your homework Sanders, you're sounding like a moron. I'm not hiding behind anything and if you'd pay attention, you'd know that.

As to Bo Short and comments, I'd prefer if his comments were turned on as well. That's my only criticism of HIS site, just like with the QRush site. Some people prefer them to be turned off and I think lessens the value of their blog. But I have never said no comments = stupid blog. Some of my favorite blogs have never had comments turned on.

Hey Sanders

Click on the "about" link.

QBlog (gasp!) gives out his real name!!!!

Therein lies the difference betwixt himself and QRush.

Sanders,

I'd suggest that yes, while Qblog is using an alias, I also do not believe he is not hiding behind that alias. If you click on the "About" link at the top of this blog, you can find the following information in a FAQ:

"..>Why don't you post your real name on this site? Why so secretive? Are you hiding something? You talk about trust and honesty but won't reveal your name. What gives?"

"..>Actually, my real name is Eric Janssen. I just use a pseudonym (QBlog) on this site to keep things simple..."

I have not seen any information which would suggest this FAQ is untrue, as such I'm inclined to believe that QBlog has made his real name available for the world to see.

If you'd like to surf on over to Qrush's site, click on the "view my complete profile" and see if there is similar information. If Qrush has provided his actual identity, I'm unable to find it on his blog.

Regarding comments on Bo Short's blog, I'd love to see them enabled too!

Oops, I just re-read the comment I posted and see that I made a typo in the first sentence. It should read:

I'd suggest that yes, while Qblog is using an alias, I also do believe he is not hiding behind that alias.

Sorry if that caused any confusion.

Just my personal perspective, Haugen seems to me to be at a loss for words and the "kick butt" was all he could pull out in his effort to drive his point on to the audience and to whom ever he was privately at "odds" with.

Yes, that and 'paddle the canoe!' had already been used.

As a fellow IBO in the Wilson organization, I firmly believe in our business and I have personally touched many lives because of our wonderful products, teachings, and beliefs. I have personally met Randy, and he and his wife, Val, are truly great people who have helped thousands achieve their freedom- and continue to do so each and every day of their lives. They have a talent many could only pray to be blessed with. Their hearts are in "the right place" and I certainly see where his message came from- people who have never met him or his family begin to judge...you really don't realize how much sweat equity, time, money, and love he has put into his business and into the businesses and lives of others. Randy, I believe in you!!!

Get a grip guys! Really, what is the big deal, so he uses words that most of us use on a fairly frequent basis and I have to say, probably a lot less viscious and anti-social that some of us use! As far as the TOOLs thing is concerned, SO WHAT if they earn money on it? Don't you think that the stores you buy tapes, CDs and books from earn money on those? If these things help to broaden a persons mind and make you look at life/yourself/others/money making/realtionships better and sometimes uplift you and help you get through what can invariably be a challenging life, bring it on I say. Yes, I am an IBO in the UK and I've read the stuff on the Net, good and bad about Amway...has it stopped me from going out there and endeavouring to build this? No way..even if this only brings us an extra £200 some months, thats £200 more than we had, and some of it is tax deductable! It makes me incessant with rage to hear so much negative about the whole thing...everything in life has some negative attached to it and the people in our upline support have always been honest about tools sales with us from the beginning. A business is all about making money whichever way you look at it...for want of sounding TOO STRONG for you guys, GIVE IT A REST! Find something worthwhile..

Hey... I know Randy and was a member of his organization for over 12 years. The phrases he used are kind of his "catch" or "key" phrases he has used many times in motivational meetings. By saying "kick butt" or "kick their teeth down their throat" he is just basically saying "show them by doing." As members of the Quixtar/Amway businesses, we took alot of ridicule and scrutiny from the media and those we talked to about what we were doing. All he is saying is "Get out there, work your business, make it happen and prove all the nay-sayers wrong." Randy and his wife are very loving and loyal people with strong senses of right and wrong. But often those who stand the tallest catch the most tomatoes. Though I am no longer affiliated with that business, I am proud to call Randy a friend and would gladly stand in his defense at any time.

I'm in Randy Haugen's organization. Randy is simply pumping up his team, and stressing that no one should let dream stealers take away what you are working hard to build. "kick butt" is just sort of a sports term I guess and just like any other great coach Randy is letting us all know that we can pull together and show the world what we are made of, just "kick some butt" He and Valerie are great people, they work hard and are truely pulling for people to do well.

I was in Randys organization for several years and he is a life coach and does not believe in people useing their own mediocrity as an excuse for their circumstances. He coaches people to be better than they believe they are capeable of being. He has helped so many people to become financially free. He is a self made man full of passion for what he does and even after making several million dollars he will take time to help more people to become finacially free. I grew immencely from his teachings and take his wisdom and passion in to all my buisness ventures. The world would be a lot better with more men like Randy Haugen in it.

Randy is a man after the dream he THOUGHT amway was. He is a man who is desperately trying to bring into existence the reality he always taught from stage. A man who is torn between right and rich. I believe down deep in Randy is someone who may someday see that he has to let go of his dream in order to regain his own identity. It is only when that happens that he will see his God-given identity return. Then dreams may come-- maybe the same dreams and maybe not-- but he will no longer feel the need to "show them." He will TRULY be free.

Geez... I hope I get to the point people critique every sentence and the subtle tones in my voice; and spend way too much time over analyzing my every move. I guess that's when you know you've "made it". Of course then I suppose you'll have people get all uptight because you hide too much from the critics. Poor guy is only human, maybe he tired. But then I suppose if he got a staff writer and measured every word he would be faulted for being too fake and polished. I don't know Randy or his organization but I really have a hard time listing to people rant about the "pros" when they can't balance their own check book. (Don’t beat me up for that; I know I don’t know anyone in this forum either. It is just a general observation) I probably don't have to tell you either I'm not much fun around the proverbial water cooler after the super bowl either. Too many arm chair quarterbacks with beer guts and bad backs.

Who cares if he says "kick butt"? It's not like a curse word or anything.

Typical Randy Haugen .... it is just his style ... not saying that it is bad ... he is actually quite motivational. His job is to keep everyone motivated ... you have to remember who he is talking to ... the working class of our culture. His organization is full of them. He has managed to attract some really good people ... but Randy never forgets where they [probably] came from ....

I have only read a few of the comments. From one who knows Randy, and has spent time with him, it is easy for me to see many of you just don't get it.
