Edify THIS!

I never really understood the whole "edification" thing in Quixtar. My wife and her downline were taught to "edify" the upline leaders. This basically meant to talk about them as if they were the greatest people and could do no wrong. The Dictionary.com definition of edify is:
To instruct especially so as to encourage intellectual, moral, or spiritual improvement.That definition doesn't quite seem to fit with the definition told to my wife and her downline. I'm no etymologist so I can't claim to have the best understanding of the word "edify" but it appears that it has more to do with teaching and encouraging than praising and exalting. In fact, what we (mainly my wife) were instructed to do sounds more like "glorification" than "edification." Again, from Dictionary.com:
glorify: To give glory, honor, or high praise to; exalt.Now how did the "glorify" and "edify" definitions get so mixed up in our LOS (QBiz)? I'm not sure. I do know that in normal conversation "edify" doesn't sound quite as pretentious as "glorify." Or maybe it's something else entirely or nothing at all? Who knows?
Anyway, back to my original point, I never got the whole edification thing. If someone is a kick-ass success and a great person in general then nobody has to encourage me to say nice things about them. I'll do so without a bit of prompting. If I'm in business with someone who exhibits impeccable character qualities, then I'll let him (or her) know that I appreciate such qualities. Why is there a need in the Quixtar circles to make edification (or glorification) a significant element in the IBO training? I guess I'm just a bitter, broke loser who will never understand. But, just to demonstrate that I can edify (or glorify) someone without prompting, I think that Lawrence Lessig is one of the greatest guys in the world. He's awesome. If I could have lunch with anyone alive today it would be Lessig. His brilliance and dedication inspire me. He's one of my ultimate heroes.
How was that? Can I get my edification badge now? Please?

I've always been annoyed by the constant misuse of the word "edify" in this business, which in real life means "to educate," not "to kiss ass." I always wondered why Amway culture chose this relatievly uncommon word, which doesn't even mean what they say it means, when they could've simply went with "respect" your upline or "praise" your upline or even "honor" your upline."
Then it hit me. Flip the "e" and the "d" in "edify" around and what do you get?
That's right. Deify.

I was never told what the word 'edify' meant by my up-line, nor did I ask. Instead, I referred to my Webster Dictionary for the interpretation. In essence, it's a manner of respecting peers or elders, kind of like a form of etiquette. Did your parents teach you etiquette? It is quite clear you are still poverty-stricken & having Friday night pity parties for yourself. Go save the world hero. Apparently you have this ALL figured out.

The word edify also means to build up. It is used throughout certain English translations of the Bible as a translation of the Greek oikodomeo, which means "to build."
So "edify" can be a reference to elevating or building someone up as well as educating, which is its common English usage. The former is probably what is intended by MLM participants when dealing with their upline.
Why is it that I always felt stupid edifying my upline?
I always felt that the person I was speaking would go away and think that I was hero worshipping, which made me feel uncomfortable.

Question for the people who are trying to say that they are pro Quixtar and edification - Why is it so threatening to discuss a variety of ideas? Yes, some of the ideas might turn to negative comments on Quixtar, but others may not. I like the variety of thoughts and ideas coming off this blog, especially this post. It is an important point to remember for those who say that God is leading them to Quixtar. Why do you need to focus so heavily on edifying your upline then?

My upline told me that a person's downline "catered to them". I told her that I didn't understand that since it was the downline making money for the upline. Based on that it seemed to me that the upline should cater to the downline. She gave me a cross look and walked away. I can't remember her speaking to me much after that.
Edify what a joke..lets see I was a direct with 12 hard years doing the 8 team steps and fianlly after sponsoring 30 got 1 leg to direct. I watched as my immediate upline had an affair with my downline (both married) befor that came to fruition we had another upline direct have his wife cheat on him. Then come to find out my upline "closest to Jesus" you coulda got (crown)---Paul Miller had an affair with his secretary..i spent 12 years edifying them, now I have since left all that crap.

I was privy to how "the system" worked, most of the time for a large coliseum function a city would give the arena to the group for free. The city made money off parking and concessiions, lets say you paid $100 each for tickets X 20,000 people = $2,000,000 in revenue you then pay Bill Britts AMI to do sound and stage then the big pins divided up what was left based on their attendance. I think Paul Miller was payed around 6 figures for showing up to speak at Larry Winters functions. Paul Miller is banned from functions for a year due to the affair.

Although that is an extreme.. we need to watch who we listen to without checking up on things being said.

In our negative world it would seem odd to speak positive words about people that are extending their hand and willing to help us.
You are right you shouldn't have to be encouraged to educate people on the highlights and successes of your coaches.
A smart person knows it "who you know" and that by giving your contacts a little background on your coaches might help them make a great connection.
The rest would come naturally, IF someone had common sense.
Better idea: Talk and gossip about all the bad stuff your coaches do, pull them down in the mud and join the rest of the genral public, after all they claimed to be "perfect" right?
Or maybe they were human just like you and me.

as written by nwyouth..but you are told not to question, just do it or your un-edifiable and thus get no "magical pixie dust" as they call it.. I surmise that you have not reached the direct level. You have not gone through putting your name on the line, promising people that your upline is on the up and believing it yourself, only to have them sleep with a downlines wife. That is just one of the many examples. I would bet you havent been in a year.
Your right unless it is Jesus, dont expect perfection. You are told not to question, ask..just do what they say. As far as dragging my coaches down they are not my coaches. They are yours and you follow them blindly, You are told your upline Diamond is awesome, yet you have not hung out enough around him to know his flaws. You take your uplines advice all your big pins are right, yet you do not look at all the law suits and comments on other web sites telling you contrary.
Its not called dragging in the mud, its letting people know that its not a Utopia, so they can make a more informed choice then taking a gung ho IBO's advice, who stands to make a profit if they get in. The people that post comments here want the potential IBO to be informed as Paul Harvey says " Now you know the rest of the story"
Have you read Bo Shorts story? He left a solid qualified Diamondship due to "your" coaches.
Please post in a year or so and let us know your level and PV checks after you pay out..That would be great information for all those potential IBO to read.
And please provide a written overview, QI or one on one where you explain about .0017% make it to diamond versus 1% make it in the real world to millionaires.
Provide us in your written presentation how 75% of a Diamonds income comes from Books, tapes and all functions (a direct quote from Paul Miller) see Scott Larsens site.
Then you will be on the right path to being a good coach

Its not about what you do...Its about how dedicated and persistent you are about what you try to become successful at....
I gurantee you that any IBO that hasn't made any income or at least an extra $300 per month after 4 months in the business per say still carries a flip chart around and has to read it to show the plan... Not very sharp there gunny heh?... such as those directs on this site that QUIT after 10 years... what? 10 years??? .. If I started that thing I'd be a CAM or a Double Diamond in that time.

That last post by Questions was hilarious..A typical response. Lets see I answered all the 5 questions. I make over 6 fgures and my wife doesnt work, I stay at home with my kids when they get home from school, in fact I can help them with their homework. We in fact eat every dinner together. They did not care about me going out at night , they wanted me home. I know every freaking angle you are comming at because I was the one that taught them.

If you read the book "the Millionaire next door" I did not read in there that in the authors extensive researc and interviews with millionaires someone who was in the MLM area.
I do personally know 15 MLM millionaires but they do not make up the largest catagory of millionaires..Auctioneers do.
Most millionaires do not dress, act or show off their possesions like lets say a big MLM'er. They are usually very humble.
I just spent 5 minutes respondiong to you as my typing and grammar suggests, but if it helps 1 person make a educated decision it was worth it.. time to go upstairs and play with the kids.
Well, thanks to this blog I just found out why I have been having so much trouble with my uplines, I don't kiss ass enough? I don't edify anybody that has not earn that position, I hardly know the people there ! Why would I? 'cause they make more money than me? that really does not impress me at all, but I do defy every chance i get , I seem to have more intelligence and integrity than all of them together....... thanks

Man you want to read QBlog's stuff. He's the greatest. He's unbelievable. If you want a big business you gotta come and read this stuff. There is no better. He's so wise, can answer all your questions, he knows so much stuff, and wow, he's so great with people .... funny too.
If only I could be one tenth as good as he is I'd rip this business up. You gotta come and read this stuff.
