Would Jesus Do Quixtar?
By QBlog in
I stumbled across some Amazon.com book reviews from a guy named "chain-breaker." Among the reviews was a brief mention of Dexter Yager's book Dynamic People Skills. The review reads:
When a man claims to be a "Christian" yet spends nearly every waking minute of his day engaged in thinking of projects that will provide new ways to make "more money"; this is surely a contradiction of terms and values. But the words of another, I feel, will most adequately describe this book's author...and his motives:Interesting."The man who professes to be a Christian must not expect God's (holy) angels to keep him if he goes in the way of worldliness. There are hundreds, and I fear thousands, of church members who say that they are the people of God, yet they appear to live entirely to the world. Their great aim is moneymaking and personal aggrandizement, just as much as it is the aim of altogether ungodly men. The kingdom of Christ, the needs of His church, the wants of perishing souls have a very slender place in their hearts; they live wholly for themselves, only they try to conceal it under the plea of providing for their families. '...seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.'" (Charles Haddon Spurgeon)
I've often wondered how devout Christians perceive Quixtar as it relates to the Bible. Some Christians, like "chain-breaker," are adamantly opposed to the "philosophy of wealth" espoused by people like Dexter Yager. Others believe quite differently. Indeed, Quixtar in the U.S. is often perceived as a "Christian organization" and many groups view their path to success as a type of ministry. I know many great Christians who are Quixtar IBOs, but still I wonder if the culture of this business (at least in many groups within the U.S.) is something Jesus would endorse. I guess what I'm really asking is "Would Jesus Do Quixtar?"
Comments
Jesus wouldn't.
Paul would.
Don't forget that the money that is generated by Quixtar big-wigs is used, in part, for spreading the gospel.
An example is www.gospelcom.net, Gospel Films, Focus on the Family and other organizations which are funded heavily by Quixtar money.
Don't forget the parable of the stewards who multiplied what they had (materially) to please their master.
Thanks Camac, I was about to touch on the ludicrousness of this idea that the search for wealth is somehow immoral, "un-Christian." The Bible never really toughes on the search for wealth, but specifies that greed is indeed a sin. Well, greed-in my book-is far different than proffitability and the last time I checked, Jesus applauded the man who multiplied the money his master had given him in his own parables.
Get off your self-rightious rocker, "Christians" and wake up to the fact that whether God put us here to save souls or feed the homeless, a lot of stuff can't be done without money.
Money is GOOOOOOD.
Greed is BAAAAAAD.
Money-Good, Greed-Bad.
Money.
Good. ... Night.
On another note, a the vast majority of CHURCHES in America are emersed in un-Christ-like politics and the things that go on behind the curtains would startle most people. I'm not suggesting these people are trying to shift the focus, so much as they are turning a blind eye to what's comfortable for them.
How rich.
Should the question be "Would Jesus do the motivational organization?"
Yes, thank you. It's a pet peeve of mine, I can't stand it when people say "Quixtar is bad because it's all about tapes! Funny, last I checked, that was my organization, not Quixtar. I have never seen a Quixtar tape or CD or book advertized up on the front page of Quixtar, ever. All I see are products. There's not even a fine line to this. There's no line. Quixtar ain't about tapes. Organizations are.
Ummmm...nope, just not gonna go there.
Jesus is our Lord and Savior not somebody to compare mans trivial pursuits against.
You are lowering your standards with that question "Q"
Lowering my standards!?! You must be new around here ;o) My standards have been quite low for quite some time... at least according to a lot of the emails I get.
Welcome to Low Standards!
Yeah, you Low Standard Man. Your standards are so low, if I spit on them they'd drown. That's how low they are. I'm gonna e-mail you about how low they are right NOW!
oh ya, Jbnet is the high standards man!
For sure.
How else do you explain his highly biblically ethical method of trying to acquire new Passport customers by hovering around Quixtar message boards like a vulture.
Call it the "curiosity approach" if you will. ;)
Only folks with the highest ethics would use the bait and switch method used by JB and his passport buddies. "Quixtar is terrible...but I have something better". Can their analysis of Quixtar be that accurate when their only goal is to steal disgruntled IBO's away to their ranks?
Isn't their something in the Bible that talks about false teachers as "wolves in sheeps clothing" trying to "steal away disciples unto themselves"? Hmmm...
Come on man, you could learn alot from Qblog's standards of openness, honesty and accurate reporting.
At least when the apostle Paul went into a synagogue, he didn't bash judaism to win converts to Christ.
Three Cheers for Mr. Standards JBNET!!
Hip hip hoooray!!
I think Jesus would really enjoy hanging out with Quixtar folks.
He rambled around with prostitutes and tax collectors and spent his last few minutes with two criminals. Quixtar folks would be his kind of crowd.
Ahem.
No, really...don't ask what Jesus would do. I find a much better question is "What would Brian Boitano do?" Because I like South Park, and got some South Park DVDs for Christmas.
Interesting. I wonder what he thought of his twelve disciples.
Now, I may be no Aquinas or Calvin, but I think I read somewhere in the Bible where one disciple turned Jesus over to the cops, another denied knowing him, he had to yell at a bunch of them for falling asleep when he was going through agony, he put up with their incessant complaining...well, he thought they were human. And he loved them anyway. And that is the true meaning of Christmas. God bless us, everyone.
Turned him over is a funny way of putting it. Last time I checked, 11 of the disciples had nothing to do with Jesus' arrest, and if I remember correctly, Jesus had to halt one of them from trying to rescue him.
But you see, I only say this because I know what I'm talking about when I get sarcastic.
In response to the following:
"Yes thank you. Organizations are."
Quixtar's products are overpriced. The organization's tapes say the same thing over and over. It's those boring tapes that make people sick of Quixtar. Perhaps if people were honestly presented with Quixtar in the hour long presentation there wouldn't be the need for all of the bull crap tapes to motivate people afterwards.
Wow, where did that one come from...Have I ever said "Hey all you former Quixtar folks come on over to Passport and give it a try?" Nope...don't think so.
Have I ever tried to contact anybody from this web site and said hey look at what I'm doing? Nope...don't think so.
Beside that I have openly stated that I am a Passport associate but I am not posting to defend Passport or any of its associates...its just my opinions.
Sorry there camac if I want somebody to know something about my business I won't hide it behind the curiosity approach. I post because I don't want all MLM's bashed because they are not all scams, pyramids or whatever else everybody with a negative comment likes to generalize with. Thats why I post on this site and I'm sure Qblog would keep me from posting if he felt I was here just to recruit people.
Sorry dude your comment is unfounded and reaching...:o)
that's funny how you changed the link at the bottom of your posts from your passport site to your email.
Wouldn't be at all convicted now would we?
Oops...I was so blown over by your nail me to the cross comments I forgot to include my web link. Sorry to all those wanting to hurry on over to my new business and get signed up I wont let you down again!...:o)
Just to keep on topic with the WWJD question...I did not feel this was a good question to be asked. Of Course Jesus would not do Quixtar. The question should be is pursuing a business like Quixtar or Quixtar itself something followers of the Christian faith should be doing?
My comment to that would be as Long as you are pursuing a legit and legal by the law of the land opportunity and as long as you are praying and asking God to lead you in your daily work, business and personal life then he will let you know if its something you should not be doing!
I was in Quixtar...I did not ever do anything with it and always felt very uncomfortable when ever I tried. Was that God telling me to get out. Maybe? I did and I feel good about my association with Passport.
Again...just an opinion.
I was raised in a baptist church and have learned some things in the bible. I believe in spiritual principals learned in other places that if summed up basically is about "Do unto others as you would have done unto you," help others and "keep your own side of the street clean".
I don't know a whole lot of what all Jesus did in detail, but it seems to me he wouldn't do Quixtar. I certainly cannot quote the bible chapter and verse, but Jesus seems to me a man who would give direct answers and want direct answers. Jesus gives you the answers wherever you are, he wouldn't expect you to come to the next function or buy more tapes before an answer came. I believe he wants us all to be genuine and look within to find him and thus our answers. If you need direction, have more questions, he would want us to seek genuine, wise and knowledgeable counsel. To me Ambabble is not always very genuine or knowledgeable. Once a couple of months back when I thought my ex-husband and I would reconcile, he began talking about what he heard on a tape. I nodded and smiled while wishing he would just tell me what was in his heart in his words.
Jesus and Quixtar just don't seem to go in the same sentence even in my opinion. He helped others. It seems time to be with others was more important to him. I don't have time to go into more detail now, just a few of my thoughts on Quixtar and Jesus here.
