Dateline Reality
By QBlog in
Since we learned of the planned Dateline NBC show about Quixtar many have made predictions about how that show will impact Quixtar. Here's a sort of sampling of those predictions:
1. Quixtar, as we know it, will cease to exist by the end of 2004.There may be other predictions that I've missed and some of the ones mentioned are simplified versions of what I've read elsewhere. Yet I think this pretty much sums up what a lot of folks believe about the potential impact of the show.2. The Dateline story will open the floodgates of negative publicity for Quixtar.
3. With the media attention focused on Quixtar we can expect new (and probably damning) information to be uncovered.
4. The uninformed masses will get the message and understand that Quixtar is a "bad business opportunity."
5. The show will have a much more detrimental impact on Quixtar today than the 60 Minutes (Soap and Hope) story had on Amway in the early '80s.
I don't have a crystal ball. I've heard and read information that seems to indicate at least some of the predictions may come true but I'm still skeptical. Why am I so skeptical? Well, frankly that's a LOT of stuff to expect from a single show. When was the last time a television show, even a hidden camera investigative type show, had a major impact on a large business or organization? Excluding the health and safety scare programs (Hanta Virus, Exploding fuel tanks, Alar, etc.) I can't think of any show that has impacted a business in the way that the predictions seem to indicate. If you can think of some, please let me know.
I do believe that regardless of the show's impact on Quixtar, it will provide some details and credibility to those who seek to expose perceived Quixtar wrongs. People that have been running "anti-Quixtar" sites for years will suddenly have mainstream media backing up many of their claims. Maybe that alone will impact Quixtar more than I realize.
I'm not saying that the above predictions are wrong. Predictions are just that, predictions. We will have to wait and see what happens. All I'm saying is that maybe this show won't have the type of impact that some believe and that folks who are hanging their hopes on the story should maybe reconsider. We'll see what happens when (if) the show finally airs.

I for one will be glad.I have been approached about joining and have been told this is not Amway, even though everyone knows it is.I did not want to join, but didn't want to hurt my best friends feelings by telling her exactly what I thought.Hopefully I won't have to after the broadcast although I suspect they are so brainwashed by now, that they won't come out of this in good financial shape.I will be praying that she sees the light.
To all readers,
It was sad to see what was said tonight about Quixtar. It's amazing that all that they talked about was how this was a big scam, how can a $125 investment be a scam. People spend $125 dollars in a weekend on beer or in a month on ciggarets or on pornographic material, GIVE ME A BREAK. I sure don't know what those people were saying about lossing $30,000, that rattles me, if they spent that much money, thats their own fault. What Dateline didn't tell anyone was that this business is bringing families together, people are coming to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, but sense this world is as messed up as it is, you all wouldn't understand any way. It's also funny that the biggest retail chain in the whole world has taken more criticism and more attacks then Quixtar, yes and that is Wal Mart. Anything thing in this world that stands out and isn't the norm of this world, will catch strife. I'm in the World Wide Dream Builders organization affiliated with Quixtar and I'll tell you what, I'm surrounded by people that have it together, that believe in family, that believe in God, that believe in freedom, that believe in this country, and believe to live better then the rest of the world. If you really seen what takes place at a function and not just what they had shown, you would see the real deal, but you know the media, they only show what they want. To end this, I'm 21 years old and because of this AWESOME business, I'm going to be retiring in the next few months and will never have to work another day of my life again. I'll be with my 3 year old daughter all the time and will be able to continue in ministry and speaking in public schools about how people need to make the right decisions in life. We will continue to share this great opportunity with the world and NOTHING or NOBODY will stop us, because if God is for us, WHO CAN BE AGAINST US? NO ONE
I am totally torn because I am in another home based business and I fear how this Quixtar thing will impact other businesses. In my business we actually make money selling the products and service a large customer base and we can also recruit but you don't have to. I mean you can make good money selling without recruiting. I was in Amway in the early 90's and I was not impressed with it. I never saw that they earned money selling, just recruiting. I hope that this doesn't open a nasty can of worms for all home businesses. What if the Partylites, Pampered Chef's, Tupperware's, Creative Memories, Home Interiors, etc...all get dragged down with this too? I pay ALL my bills and then some on my business and even though I don't like Amway and I too was told more than once that Quixtar was not Amway, even though I knew better, I am worried for all home businesses. Amyway was not my cup of tea but it may be for some. I work with a few Somalian people in my business and I have realized that Amway/Quixtar has REALLY hit this group hard! Most of them do this and don't realize, because they weren't here in the 80-90's, what Quixtar really is. They also don't watch much TV so they may never hear about this dateline thing.
Its pretty funny that this was aired during sweeps. The report was pretty shabby... If Quixtar is so bad... why has not the government investigated it and shut it down... I know... they were investigated by the government and was found to be an ethical business... hmm... sounds like someone has an axe to grind because the got kicked out of Quixtar because they were doing unethical practices... the guy did not say that in the interview... noticed that they did not have anything good to say. sounds like a fishy report to me.
Hmm, this is quite a site, and some of the posts are even more interesting. I invested $75 to become an IBO, I then invested $125 to get the business materials on how to be successful with the Quixtar portal. Then I made a concious decision to invest about a further $150 per month into the growth of my business with tools. And this means it is a pyramid that will drive me to be broke?? I already was broke! I spend all day working in the main stream world busting my rump for 8 hours a day, working weekends to make my boss and his buisness profitable. That time certainly is not putting huge globs of dollars in my pocket. So yes, I was looking for a sideline to generate some money, and I looked closely at the opportunity from Quixtar and BWW and found that for me, this is the answer and it is proving true. I no longer understand how people can rush getting up every day to run to work for 8 hours or more, rush home in time to say goodnight to their families and figure life is great? Mechanics invest Thousands of dollars in schooling and tools to fix our cars, doctors invest thousands in training, school and time to help us feel better, journalists should be spending hours in school and research for their stories. Computer Technicians invest thousands of dollars to learn and acquire the always changing tools of their trade. Owners of McDonald's restaurants invest $1,000,000 in cash before they even open the doors and you people are saying to get into a business like Quixtar will drive you into debt? Life can do that on its own for most of us "spend $1.25 makeing $1" people. But, like all the professions I listed here, you studied and listened to your teachers to be successful in your field. And think about this, to be successful in any field you studied and listened to your teachers on how to succeed. Those who listened are successful, those who chose not to, or did not put the time to it failed. Quixtar is no diferent. To be successful you need to do the studying, listening and the work. If you don't, you will end up here, running a website wishing it had of worked. Before you listen to Dateline or Here as the final on Quixtar, which will not be going away in 2004 as they have $100,000,000 in sales in March alone this year, be a self thinker and go and talk to someone in the trenches with this business and hear all about it. May not be for you, but at least you heard it first hand, not from a disgruntled unsuccessful person.
I have been apart of this business for over a year...long enough to see it for what it truly is...an amazing opportunity to grow and to extend to others the choice and opportunity to get in the drivers seat of their lives and GO get and share the abundance God has given. God does not believe in lack and scarcity. The whole point of the business is not to scam people but to uplift them...the business in the grander scope is NOT about selling soap...it is about self growth, supporting, loving and uplifting your family, becoming the best parent and spouse we can be...in this business statisticly there is less than a 2% divorce rate for active IBO's which tells me alone in itself they must be doing something right... support and the utmost respect and honor for our country and the means to preserve everything our country stands for and has fought for...our freedom. It is the opportunity to take charge of your own life rather than having YOUR LIFE be dictated by a boss or company...what it comes down to is...anyone who has any grievence or faliure in this business has no one to blame but yourself because it is YOUR business...the only way to lose in this business is to quit.
I am a quixtar IBO and was always aware that it was evolved from Amway. If a person decides to become an IBO, it costs less than $30 (which is refundable!) Anyone who pays more than that was taken by the hype of the sponsor ... NOT QUIXTAR! A new IBO is also required to sign a "business tool" waiver which states that they are not required to purchase anything other than the starting paperwork (forms). I personally do not attend any seminars or any meetings but my own and I have been very successful. If anyone ever decides to deviate from the original principles set forth by founders DeVos and VanAndel, then they are pinheads and shouldn't criticize what they failed to read in the quixtar manual in the first place ... it's their own fault.
The dateline story has had no impact on the business. It continues to grow. What's funny is that the story had very little to do with Quixtar, and everything to do with the tools side of the business, a side Quixtar has nothing to do with. Successful IBO's doing teaching and training for other IBO's who want to reach the same levels just makes sense. I guess I just don't understand the argument. Professional athletes hold camps and clinics teaching youngsters the basics of basketball and football because those kids want to achieve the same type of success. And yes they do charge money for the camps. They are compinsated for the services and expertise. As they should be. Well this same thing happens in the business world. There are professionals who have mastered the basics and concept of building successful business networks and they are paid for their expertise. Why would they go speak to collesiums of people for free and without any compensation or reward? Why would anyone do that? And yes profits are created when people purchase Business Support Materials like CD's and books. Is this bad or wrong? I guess this is another argument I just don't get. Do people want them to distribute them for free???? Why would they do that? It doesn't make sense. Does Wal-Mart, Barnes and Noble, or any other company in the world for that matter, distribute valuable books and cd's out for free "just because". Do colleges charge for the books??? OH MY GOD. THEY DO!!! What an outrage. I can't believe they don't distribute them for free. YOU SEE HOW DUMB THIS SOUNDS. I guess I just have to much common sense. Oh, and by the way, Bo Short, the guy dateline interviewed who was "the saint unveiling the truth", he was a leader on a team that was BOOTED OUT by QUIXTAR for charging additional money to register, money that ended up in their pockets. Now Bo Short started his own business and this is his way at getting back at the company by switching the story so he appears like the moral angel instead of the one who was actually ripping people off.
Hmm, 2005 and we're still going strong. In my opinion, humble but accurate, Quixtar is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I can't believe that people are appalled by the fact that they have to work in this business to make money, and like all businesses, it takes time to get the ball rolling. You know, a plane uses an awful lot of fuel getting off the ground too, but i dont hear people complaining about that one.
One thing you must remember: Our websites have been operating for at least six years. I've watched and followed Amway's slow disappearance into the Quixtar name since 1999 (four years since THAT...who woulda thunkit?), one generation of webpages frozen and another threatened, and the Tools pyramids made public.
The people joining Quixtar now aren't necessarily understanding the full import of some of the information we're giving them, but they're going in with their eyes open. They know that Quixtar is Amway (some overzealous posters on my board nonwithstanding), they know about the tools and they know what others think about it. These folks are willing to live with whatever gets dished out by their friends and family. They know what's up...and they're joining (or rejoining, as in the case of my mother) anyway.
Dateline's impact will be added heft in what we say, as NBC will be giving an independent, outside, mainstream voice to what's been said on the internet. Those who might listen to NBC over the internet will listen.
