Some of our friends

By QBlog in

When my wife first started as an active IBO in Quixtar she contacted a lot of her friends and asked them to join her in the business. None of her friends had ever heard of Quixtar, they had never been former Amway reps and few had been involved with any sort of MLM: except one.

Mary (not her real name) and her husband had been involved with Amway several years ago and achieved limited success. They told my wife that they "loved Amway but after a while just didn't have the time to devote to the business." When they saw the Quixtar plan they immediately signed up and seemed thrilled at the opportunity to get involved with a "new, improved Amway on the Web." (The husband was an IT administrator)

However, there was somethng peculiar about their involvement as Quixtar IBOs. After signing up they both told my wife that they refused to be put on Tape Of the Week, would not attend any functions and doubted that they would ever show the plan to anyone.

I was somewhat confused and tried to figure out why they would become IBOs and yet refuse to participate. I'm still a bit baffled. They stayed true to their word and soon after my wife's activity ceased, their personal buying also ceased.

I only share this story because it still puzzles me after all this time. I don't understand why they would sign up without any intention of aggressively building their business. I'm baffled about why former Amway folks, who have only praise for the business, would take such a reserved position. Just one of those things that pops into my crusty old mind on a Sunday evening I guess.

Perhaps they just wanted to support your wife...

Bingo!

And how many OTHER friends do that? Hmmmmmmmm.... I wonder.

A lot of people do that, believe it or not. Even I did that for a while, until I figured out my "Why" for the business.

Perhaps they just wanted to hitch their wagon to a "fired up" IBO and feed off the scraps. Kind of like remora do with sharks. Not a bad strategy, but just as despicable as the pins that are also trying to make something for nothing.

Taking it one step further I would offer that they may have remembered how hard it is to sponsor someone is Quixtar and thus felt the support of signing up would mean that much more.

As for DB's theory about feeding off of the scraps...I find that hard to swallow for two reasons. First it would take a pretty jaded human being to come up with the theory, let alone live it out. Second, most IBO's can't even sponsor 1-2 new IBO's per month, let alone have leftovers for a downline to "feed on".

Ty,
Actually, I think the Remora strategy would be a great one in the Passport Building Blocks. Since everyone is trying to drive depth to the third level before going horizontal, some lazy Associates might be able to rely on their upline and downline to build a significant pyramid around them. You must admit, in theory it would work.
In reality though, the Passport product lines are just too narrow and expensive to get former IBOs all fired up. Besides after spending all their money on Earnware and phone cards, the costs might still be too high to turn a profit.

Dave's Buddy,

I agree. Everyone that I have personally sponsored in Passport has either sponsored someone or I have sponsored somone for them, with the exception of the two new associates I sponsored this week. However, I don't see myself simply building a persons business for them because they are there, on the other hand, they may reap the reward of someone downline building a business.

Regarding expensive products, are you confused? Passport products are the most competitive in the industry and 1/3-1/2 the price of comparative Quixtar products.

Regarding Earnware, it seems you are a little behind in your news. Passport will be offering it's associates 2 free websites within the next 45 days, essentially making Earnware obselete.

When you say phone cards, I assume you are referring to the long distance charged incurred when callinbg into a conference call...this too is becoming optional in the next 2 weeks as conference calls are being posted on the web for free download in MP3 format.

Enjoy!

Ty,
Pyramid marketing products that are 1/3-1/2 the price of Quixtar standards are still 2-5 times greater than traditional retail.
I have been behind on my Passport news in the last few months (hunting and fishing season) but thanks for implying that I am versed in the program. Anyway, why the changes? Is Bo messing with the business model because it isn't working or because it is working too well? I'm assuming the former since most business don't mess with success.
How is is your pyramid progressing? What kind of Associate numbers and average retail sales are you looking at?

Your figures are hogwash. 2-5 times traditional retail? HA! Go find a shampoo that compares well with Paul Mitchell and Redken for $3.95.

Bo is not touching the business model. The websites and additional reports and back office tools are enhancements to what is already available. You are really funny...I tell you that Bo is giving associates 2 free websites and you assume the sky is falling...

Once again your assumption is incorrect, but that's OK, I expect you to be about 180 from the truth most of the time. Orders in July v. August were up over 40%, with a similar increase in August v. September. Sponsoring numbers and bonus check numbers have also steadily increased.

I have over 70 people in my group with retail numbers increasing every month.

Ty,
Although your Passport pyramid is growing, it doesn't sound like you are very happy with it. You weren't this short tempered the last time we debated, as it would usually take 4-5 posts before you countered with the personal attack. What's up? Is the "money Building Block" (i.e. Level 3) sinking into Quixand? Are you replacing Associates at the same rate you are recruiting them? Are the opportunity costs getting too high? This is not like you. Maybe it's time to jump to another MLM.

C'mon DB,

Calling your figures hogwash and saying that your assumptions are wrong most of the time is hardly a personal attack...it is called the truth.

You should try it some time.

By the way...out of 70 plus associates, zero have quit and only two have told me that they are not interested in pursuing it at this time.

Ty,
The truth is that your personality has been transformed into that of Passport Doug (i.e. a bitter and broken IBO who is working on becoming a bitter and broken Passport Associate). I liked you better when you were fo shizzle my nizzle.

Looks like my 180 assessment is right on track again with you DB.

Are you sure this is not a DB imposter? I seem to remember your prior posts having some sort of logic to them, however misguided.

Do you need a hug? Can I send you a Starbucks card to "latte' up"?

Once again, pointing out the fact that you are completely wrong in your assumptions does not make one bitter. It simply shows that you are wrong...again.

Ty,
Enough with the pleasantries, how are your "Ranier Beach" and "Capital Hill" legs doing? Do you find any similarities in their product preferences? Have you been able to break a leg in "White Center" yet? I think it is wise that you aren't competing with the WWDB mafia over on the east side of King County.

Two things about that: first, even though it was barbie a first effort, and we were two whiteys who admittedly yosilogy
didn't know as much about rap (the history, methodology, contact lens the deliverance, even) as about a lot of other music shoes - we practiced several flows over the track before loan we actually recorded the raps - the finished product mortgage was surprisingly credible
