One reason I don't care for Amway/Quixtar
By QBlog in
In 1996 I was engaged to be married. While living with my 4 (gasp) roommates I got a call from an old friend who had been sort of a mentor-type friend of the family. He was my dad's friend but was like an uncle to me and my sister. We spent a lot of time together growing up and I respected him and more importantly, I considered him my friend.
In 1996, during a stressful time of making wedding preparations and getting back into school, I got a phone call from my friend. He said he was coming into town for the weekend and would love to get together with me. Of course I was extremely busy but I shifted schedules to make a few hours available to meet with my friend and catch up on old times. I'll also note, that this was to be our first "adult" meeting, where I was an adult on my own and we could talk on relatively equal terms instead of the child/mentor relationship we'd had while growing up.
Well, we arranged to have coffee at my favorite coffee shop and I was extremely excited. We exchanged greetings and hugs and began catching up on old times. However, after about 15 minutes into our conversation he began pulling out some brochures and talking about Amway.
Amway! I'd heard of Amway (my high school buddy's parents were in it) but I didn't know much about it and certainly had never had anyone pitch the business to me before. He continued to explain all the benefits of Amway and how it would help my new future and all that but I was really too stunned to comprehend what he was saying to me.
I felt betrayed, used and shafted (are those emotions?) all at the same time and was getting very irritated (that is an emotion). He never once mentioned that he was going to "show me the plan" or even hinted that he had any other motive in meeting me besides talking to an old friend. He ended by giving me some tapes to listen to (which I never did) and he told me he'd call me to see how I liked it.
In my mind, I'd been lied to by a man that I deeply respected and loved. He'd "tricked" me into meeting him so he could show me some business that would make him (and me) money. The funny thing is, if he'd even hinted that he might want to talk about Amway or something I'd still have met with him and been much more receptive to anything he said.
I know people will say, "That's one guy, not everyone does that" or "that method isn't encouraged" but I've heard too many tapes and talked to too many people to believe that's the exception rather than the rule.
And this, folks, is partly why I'm so adamant about being candid and open from day one. If you're in a business where you have to "hide" the truth or at least confuse people so that the truth is hard to find then frankly, you can just kiss my ass.
PS: I haven't talked to my "friend" since that incident.

I know EXACTLY what you mean! Just recently I have felt betrayed by many of my own friends who have tried using me for their source of income VIA Quixtar. I can honestly say that I have a very difficult time staying friends with them these days. I know that they only saw me as a way of furthering themselves.
The funny this is, this did not happen with just one aquaintance who was involved with quixtar. It was EVERY single one of them (8 people to be exact). Once I told them I wasn't interested in their "business", they pretty much disassociated from me (probably because they figured I was of no value to them anymore).
I am convinced that quixtar is evil. That may sound harsh(or even funny), but it has torn several of my good friendships apart as well as other people I know. These people feed off each other's idiocy and ruin their reputations in the meantime.
If you have any concern for your reputation or your friends, you will stay far far away from this pathetic excuse of a get rich plan.
If some one thinks his/her reputation is damaged because another person from the quixtar family has approached them about the opportunity and you determine that Quixtar is evil then he/she probably don't need the chance to participate in a business of the Quixtar type. Quixtar is not evil. There's just many evil people in every walk of life and every sort of business. No one can force you to do anything you don't want to do. Just say no!
Cute guy starts chatting me up in a bookstore at the mall. Both of us are looking at web design stuff and he starts talking about his e-business and life in general (Flirting mostly MAJORLY FLIRTING) After about 10 minutes of talking, he asks me for my phone number and if I would like to go out for coffee and talk sometime. I of course am ecstatic, I mean how often does something like that happen? He calls me and asks if I would like to meet him at a local coffee shop that friday. I meet him there and he starts off friendly and then starts talking about internet franchising and product sales and then rolls full force into his sales pitch. He wants me to "Join his team" he and his "Senior Partner" are building there business now for the future and Quixtar is "the future"
Now I am not against Amway/Quixtar anymore than I am against Avon and Mary Kay, but please IBOs remember not to disguise potential sales meetings as DATES!!!! EMBARASSING and HUMILIATING. If I was not so good at concealing my emotions and hadn't pretended that I knew all along that this was the purpose for the meeting it would have been even more so. and as Qblog said, I would have been much more willing to listen had he been upfront about his intentions!
You know what? I don't think there is anything funny or ambiguous about the statement "Quickstar is evil". If it is really good, then why have I never heard of it bringing families and friends together? Why do I not know a single soul (of quite a few people I know who are involved) that is making any good money from it? Heck, you could probably make more working at McDonalds. And another thing: My brother-in-law is 100% convinced that this is a cult we're dealing with here. After a little research, I too am almost convinced. For example, this "business" was supposedly started by a Christian, and it associates itself with Christianity. I have personal proof of this: all the people I know who are involved meet with the church in my locality. Furthermore, there seems to be a resistance, something abnormal and uncomfortable developing among the group. What is this? Money mixed with Christianity! Does anybody know what Jesus did when He discovered the temple was being used for business? This is just one of many equally disturbing evidences I have heard of. And, on that note, I will say with confidence, Quixtar IS evil.
I have friends who swear their quality of life has improved under Quixtar, but I have seen no evidence of this. Since joining, they're poorer than ever and have lost most of their formerly free time. They still seem to be chasing a carrot on a stick nearly nine months after joining. This worries me for their sake. I wish them all luck, but don't hold out a lot faith in them getting rich easily like the company says they will.
Those of who say that quixtar is a cult, I have a question for them HAVE YOU TRIED IT OUT? HAVE YOU GIVEN IT A SHOT? Who so ever says you cannot earn from this business then u cannot, If you beleive in urself and the system then u surely can make money. If you think that a friend showing a plan to you is bad, then u r wrong, the friend is not bad he is trying to show u an opportunity that could change ur life(if u r not a dumb egoistic asshole like most of you are), if u don't want then just say no u have the option of remaining broke and dumb ass hole. If you think that u can be friends no more then u r not worth being a friend. I would like to say one thing to you all. Just mail me at camabhishek@yahoo.com with subject 'question' and i will answer ur question. I am ready to debate with ass holes like you who are cults and they say others to be cults. FUCK OFF ASS HOLES...
Ummm. . . is it just me or did that last post (Abhishek) sound a lot like a person from a nasty colt! Maybe this program can only be avoided buy people of at least a mild intelligence. I am currently trying to save a good friend of mine from this evil entrapment. Its not easy now that they have got him brainwashed! Sadistic companies like these should not be allowed in the American market place!
Where do I begin? I was approached by a family member to join Quixtar. If you have any experience with this so-called company, then you know the drill. I joined and learned the following over the one year I was involved:
1. If you don't call up people to at least go for coffee, you SHOULD feel terrible for calling them for a business proposition to make YOU money. Yes, they can as well, but your genuine intention is to put loot in your own pocket.
2. The so-called 'tools' are a scam. Who's making money from this over-priced propaganda?
3. It is common knowledge that in a capitalist system 10% are rich and 90% are poor. Go to one of their major (cultish) gatherings. 10% cross the stage while 90% wish they could. This will NOT change.
Many members of my family have invested a lot of money into this company with zero returns. I've begged an pleaded for them to find something else, but the tapes convince them that they can do it, even though they've been 'trying' for years. It has made our family fight with each other and it has made all of the quixtar members nothing more than materialistic freaks. They all led imaginative and meaningful lives before quixtar entered the picture. I have no problem with a legitimate business opportunity, but the brainwashing through the tapes is absolutely insane. I feel sorry for all the individuals that have been in this business for years and still watch the stage with envy. There is more to life than money, and turning into an annoying "guy(or gal) Smiley" with all the answers to the average citizen's financial woes is a terrible thing indeed. Some will defend quixtar. If you find someone who does, ask them why no one questions where all their money is truly going. Why are the 'tools' so expensive if these people want you to succeed? Why doesn't anyone tell you how much they make? Why is there so much secrecy? It is simply those who have the social skills to pressure others harvesting profits from those who cannot through propaganda. If Hitler was alive, he'd be a crown.
We have had 3 run-ins with Quickstar people and each time they tell us the same thing, "We are different!" The first person said they wanted to start a Bible study and then used the Bible study as a means to gain new recruits to their business. The second one "preyed" on us immediately when they found out we moved to a new state far from family. They couldn't have been more helpful sharing with us doctors and showing us aroudn town and including us in their get-togethers, and for over a year we fell into the trap of them wanting to be our friends in this new land. All the while they were viewing us as new recruits for the business. The third Quickstar people welcomed us into their community readily and introduced us immediately to their friends, helping us feel welcome in their church, only to find out months later that we were yet another target for the business! I am wondering if there are any real people out there with good intentions for friendship that aren't connected with a multi-level marketing business? Even in the church it is impossible to get away from these trolls of greed. If you see Quickstar people coming, run for the hills immediately! They will suck the life out of ya.
i am an indian and i can personally vouch for the pitiable way in which many of my 'amwayed' fellow indians humiliate themselves at the local walmart [in bay area] - they would roam around with no shopping cart [thats a tell tale sign of a quixtar agent] and then try to find any silly excuse to chat up another indian. they even roam as couples to be able to chat up to other couples. In the end any business that makes you demean yourself like that [and makes you think that your are 'growing' your business] is not worth i
My relationship with my Daughter and son in law is being hurt by Quixtar. I was in amway years ago and know exactly how dishonorable the business was and is.
I make well over 6 figures with my own business. My advise is to start your own business and grow it but stay away from Amway. The only reason in church I used to get approached for lunch was from people using people to get into amway.
