Gatesian Slip
I noticed a curious little quirk about my iPod while listening to a Rage Against the Machine song today. The screen truncates track information if it's too long to display on one line. Guess what everyone's favorite revolutionaries get christened:
"Rage Against the Mac."

PowerBook Repaired
Well, Apple has my admiration yet again. Took the PowerBook in on Saturday, which was a holiday weekend (in the U.S.). So, nothing was done on the thing until Tuesday. I called Tuesday and they said it was a fried Logic Board (what is that exactly, couldn't get a straight answer from the superGoofy Genius at the Genius Bar). The new board came in today and they installed it this evening. What a joy.
The best thing is that this is all still under that extended AppleCare which cost me around $200-300 if I remember correctly. Well, I'm looking at the work order and without AppleCare it would have cost me $625.14! Yipes. My AppleCare has already paid for itself... sort of... depending on how you look at it I guess.
Anyway, I've also had a positive experience with Gateway when that PC had problems but it was just nice to have an actual store here in town that I could walk into and explain my problem in person. Maybe Apple really does know what its doing with these silly stores (I love the stores btw).
So, now I realize that I need a new Mac. Part of me wants to wait for the new G5 PowerBooks (if they are really coming) and the other part of me wants to wait until I actually have money to pay for it. I'll probably listen to the part that is reminding me about my tight budget and pretend I'm just waiting for the new G5. And yes, I've decided that I will never own a desktop as a primary computer again. Laptops are the only way to fly baby.

Celebrate!
I've been busy creating a Flash-powered Web presentation to celebrate 50 Years of Rock and/or Roll. Yes, I know all about "Rocket 88" but I live in Memphis and around here, Elvis is the guy that started it all. So anyway, I've been busy with that and have been scarce just about everywhere lately.
Oh, and also my PowerBook died. I mean it literally bit the big one. The Apple Geniuses say they can fix it but it just refused to power up at all on Friday night and the prognosis is that it's a bad logic board. Sounds logical. Anyway, it's spending some time at the Apple store and so I'm sort of learning how to do stuff on my other computers, which are:
1. A 1998 Gateway PC running Windows 98 SE with about 128 megs of Ram and a 266 Mhz processor. Yes, it's true.
2. A G3 iMac, the snow kind. It's a 500 Mhz I think and it's running OS X Jaguar (10.2).
So yeah, it's kinda weird. I realized that I need some new computers. Big time.
Oh yeah, and if you like that Web presentation, please feel free to link it up on your blog or whatever. There's a rumor that I'll get a bonus if the site gets Slashdotted, or Farked or BoingBoinged or something like that. It's just a rumor but who knows, it may be true. ;o)
