If you are using a PC to read this then you are not having nearly as much fun as I am right now. Why? you ask. Well, I'm not one of those Mac snobs but what I am is totally thrilled with the new iTunes. It totally rocks. When was the last time I was this excited about a music player? Well, when I first downloaded Winamp probably.

What is so great about the new iTunes from Apple? Well, it has a ton of neat little things I haven't even begun to discover but mainly it streams wonderfully. I LOVE a good streaming music station. I found this Euro Hard-Trance station that is super.

Ok, so how do you enjoy iTunes? Well get a Mac and then have fun.

Reflection. A time to sit back and think. Reflecting on one's life is a scary thing sometimes. But everyone loves a good scare now and then.

Ok, I admit it...I'm addicted to Habboing.
Habbo Hotel is this Shockwave Chat environment that has been around for a couple of years and is frankly quite habbit forming. It hails from the UK but is pretty global in its appeal. I totally dig the retro-pixel arcade look at Habbo. How much time have I spent in this virtual hotel? Well, I'm ashamed to admit it but let's just say that if Habbo was an airline I'd soon be getting round trip tickets to China with my frequent flyer miles. Happy Habbooing

My cat disappeared tonight. I

My cat disappeared tonight. I came home from work and one cat was sitting on the front porch and the other one was AWOL. These cats have no claws. They are not outdoor cats. The maid let them out by accident. So now we go on a mad kitty hunt. Me and the two kids. Finally, the cat is found in the neighbor's backyard. The backyard is home to a BIG dog. The cat eating kind. However, the cat survived and is now in our garage, because she demanded even more adventure (the garage is our permissable pseudo-outdoors. The real point of this story is to point out how stupid our cats are and to provide a link to my friend's www.funwithkitty.com Website. Enjoy.

Minority Report Analysis (WARNING: SPOILER)

Minority Report Analysis (WARNING: SPOILER)
Ok, I have figured out (at least I think I have) why Minority Report did not
impress me the way I was hoping it would. I think there were basically two major
reasons I was "disappointed" with the movie as a whole.

  1. The movie gets extremely sappy and clichéd in the last 20 minutes.
As I watched the "unveiling" of Lamar at the party I kept thinking
of how tired and overused this plot device had become. There is an extremely
interesting dream sequence scenario described at kottke.org.

  2. There are MANY problems with the plot that I "sensed" but didn't
really cognitively notice until after the movie. Kottke.org
goes over many of these plot holes and a lively debate discusses some possible
explanations for these holes. One such hole (the major hole) is that Anderton
had no idea who Leo Crow was or why he would kill him until the PreCogs saw
it on the viewmaster. And so how would Lamar know that he would be able to
find out about and kill Leo Crow if the only way he found it out was after
he saw it on the viewmaster. Anyway, it's a problem but the real thing is
that I didn't really notice the problems but I think I sensed it and this
affected my impression of the film.

Lesson here is Speilberg has lost his golden touch. A.I. was also good but
far from great. M.R. is a good movie till you really start thinking about it.
It is primarily a success because of the vision of the future. The movie was
exciting too until the very end. Ok, now I have purged the bad movie demons
and am free to carry on my merry way.

WALLET BLUES Scenario: You're in

WALLET BLUES

Scenario: You're in a convenience store. You pull out the old wallet and whip out a few bucks to pay for that Baby Ruth and Diet Peach Snapple Ice Tea. The clerk takes the money. Pushes some buttons and starts getting your change. Your change involves bills. You receive the bills but now the clerk is done. She looks past you and asks the man behind you if she can help him. But YOU'RE not done. You're standing there trying to shove your two dollars in change into your wallet. You don't feel like walking around the store, holding your wallet and cramming money in while carrying your purchase...so you stand there. Now the looks and irritation from those around you begin. But what else are you supposed to do???

This happens to me all the time. I hate it. There HAS to be some proper method of dealing with this type of scenario. I usually am able to get my money in the wallet while the clerk is bagging the product. However, for very small purchases a bag isn't needed. How about a 10 second grace period? Or what if the clerk gives the money and then fiddles with the receipt for a few seconds? Ok, maybe putting the cash quickly into my pocket will work but I hate doing that. I should be able to put it directly into my wallet.

ok...enough bitching...

Why is it that every

Why is it that every time I go see a movie by myself I leave in an altered state of mental clarity. It's as if once the movie is over and I'm walking to my car some chemical reaction is initiated in my brain and life suddenly makes perfect sense. This state of mind generally lasts the drive home and a few moments later but tonight it's hanging around much longer.

I just saw Minority Report. It was a great movie. I think it would have been better with a few changes but overall it was great. The point isn't the movie the point is that I want to try to determine if this "moment of clarity" thing is a uniquely personal phenomenon or if it's a shared experience. Whatever it is I've been inspired to rethink many aspects of life in general and life in specific.

...just rambling thoughts after MidNite

THE VIRGIN SUICIDES / ***

THE VIRGIN SUICIDES / *** 1/2 (R) * Ok, Ebert has some very good insight. I just thought this film was quirky. I'm a guy. I missed a lot of the "mystery" of the movie because of this I think. I did like. I also saw how the interaction with the boys was just as much a part of the movie as the girls. In fact it may be more of the movie. Anyway, it's a "mood" movie. You must be in the mood to see this.

An open letter to the

An open letter to the Web. How do I run the OSX packaged Apache server so that my pages are served up to the Web? Also, a note to Apple, it's NOT as easy as you make it sound (http://www.apple.com/switch/).

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my macs, I just don't think they are quite as usable as they should be. They are much, much more "user friendly" than the WinTel PC as evidenced by the fact that my 2-year-old son can get around on the iMac pretty well while the PC is a complete riddle to him. However, he is not able to broadcast a Web page to the Web but then again, neither am I which means that maybe I have the computer skills of a two-year-old. This is either speaking very highly of my son or very negatively of me, or maybe both.
Anyway, I am trying to serve up a Web page (just temporarily, I know my Cable IP address will change) to the general Web. I have succeeded in serving up an intranet page but getting it to the general Web is not happening.

Here are the links which have gotten me frustrated. One is a PDF linked page and the other is an Apple discussion. If you have any idea please email me. If you have no idea how but have experienced the same frustration please let me know as well so I can feel some ammount of comfort knowing I am not alone.
