Scooping
Is there a better feeling in the news business than scooping the competition on a great story?
Nope, I don't think so.
Details at 11.
11 - The scoop was that the paper where I work had an exclusive story about some local, political changes. It was fun to watch the local news and see them say "details tomorrow after a press conference" when we had those details already. I just love that kind of stuff.

I am Paris Hilton
I linked to a "humorous"
Paris Hilton Video blog the other day because it was number one on the
Daypop Top 40 and I thought it was funny. I wasn't trying to generate any traffic but the inevitable result was a spike in bandwidth. I hadn't seen this much traffic here in months.
So, from this experience I conclude that the Net is still primarily a device for people to get free porn. Some things never change.

Blogging the Michael Jackson Interview V
Mike says it's fine to share your bed with a child unless you're a pedophile, Jack the Ripper or a murderer. Hmmmm, that makes sense.
Then he pulls out the J-bomb and says that Jesus tells us to love the children. Yeah, I think I remember that verse in the Bible where Jesus tells us to share our beds with children.
He says he would surely allow his kids to sleep in the same bedroom with a grown man if he knew them personally. Absolutely.
He doesn't understand why people think it's strange for him to share his bed with kids. Then he says he knows other men who share their bed with kids, but not for sex. Just like sleeping and pillow fights and stuff.

Blogging the Michael Jackson Interview IV
It's all about money according to Mike.
"The Love of Money is the root of all evil," says Mike. He then blames the accuser's parents and says he knows the kid's heart.

Blogging the Michael Jackson Interview III
The locked Mike in a bathroom with "doo-doo and feces" thrown all over the wall. Locked him in there for 45 minutes. He said the bathroom was "stinky."

Blogging the Michael Jackson Interview II
Mike talks about his arrest and says, "they did it to try and belittle me, try to take away my pride."
"They manhandled me," and then says that he is in pain every day from what they did to him when they arrested him.
By the way, he's 5' 11" and weighs 120 pounds.

Blogging the Michael Jackson Interview
I'm blogging the 60 Minutes Michael Jackson interview. Why? Ya got me. Something to do I guess. He says he'll slit his wrists before he'd molest a child. Is this a veiled threat?

First Time
I just gave my credit card number with the expiration date to
Jason on the phone last night. There was something surreal about handing over those hallowed digits to a guy I only know through blogging and AIM. Before you get any ideas, it was for a subscription to
Paste Magazine which is also his employer.
Is there some greater significance in this non-traditional act? Or am I making something out of nothing? I still like to believe that there is something important going on with blogs. Some, not all, blogs are able to establish a trust and repoir between the readers and the author and it's a type of relationship I've not seen elsewhere. I'm not saying it ONLY exists in blogs, just that I've not encountered it as often in other online communication environments. Maybe I should get out more?
Anyway, it will be good to get a magazine that isn't directly tech/web related for a change. I still like music... I think.

Alma Mater
Watch the
New Orleans Bowl tonight. My alma mater is playing in its first bowl game since 1971. Go Tigers.
UPDATE: TIGERS WIN! Who knew winning the stupid "New Orleans Bowl" would be so exciting. My attitude on all the "junk" bowls is changing... just a bit.

Please stop!
Enough with the Live Action movie versions of
cartoons,
children's books and now
Sunday morning comics. Ok, the Sunday morning comics thing isn't exactly new (Dennis the Menace, Blondie & Dagwood, etc.) but GARFIELD THE MOVIE?!? Gimme a break.
The horror of this is I will most probably be seeing this film in the theater with my kids. Who said parenting was easy!?!

Saddam is Santa Claus!

I showed my three-year-old son this photo of Saddam Hussein in the paper this morning and asked him if he knew the fellow in the picture. He exclaimed, "That's Santa Claus!" Indeed.
A few moments later we passed by our television as the news was showing the video of Saddam getting a brief medical exam by the U.S. military and my son said, "Santa's getting a checkup." So, my son believes that Saddam is Santa. Kids do say the darndest things don't they? Well, this incident got me thinking (alert!). Maybe Saddam would have been able to hide from justice a bit longer if he'd bleached his beard and donned a red suit. And besides, who wants to arrest Santa Claus for goodness sake? The only possible snag would be that Santa is probably a pretty rare sight in Muslim countries so the getup may attract more attention than desired. Also, the disguise would only work until after Christmas, it'd be really weird to see a guy in a Santa suit in the middle of March.
Oh, by the way, Blogger SUCKS. It's been a while and it feels good to be able to depend on some things. Like Blogger choking on my post and completely losing it the one time I forget to type it out on TextEdit before posting.

Chinese Takeout: Part Deux
For reasons I don't quite understand this
Chinese Takeout "WebArt experiment" I did last year has become
ever so popular. I had several referrer logs for the graphic last month and many from private sites (meaning I can't see the context in which the graphic is used). The Web is a very bizarre creature. I learned a long time ago to quit asking questions and just enjoy the ride.

I'll be back?
This
blog was a self-proclaimed has-been
in September. Now it's not. The theme song to "Welcome Back Kotter" is buzzing in my head.

My eBay Pet Peeve

The eBay logo is clearly all lowercase. This is fine. No complaints. However, when looking at any of the actual text on eBay, including the title of the page, it's a lowercase "e" followed by a capital "B" and then more lowercase letters. What's up with that? Why does eBay seem to have this schizophrenic attitude towards it's logo and name spelling? All they'd really need to do is change the graphic to match all the text on the site and I'd be happy. As it is, I'm not happy. I'm annoyed. And the more I think about it the more I'm annoyed. At the very least they should explain this inconsistency on the eBay help pages. And yes, this is exactly what I'm doing for fun on a Saturday night. Got a problem with that?

Just like that... it's gone
Just noticed that
BlogShares - Closed Down. I think it's been down for a while but I'm not sure. It's sad to see it go but I'd honestly lost interest in actively trading. I did like to see how my blogs were doing in the rankings but that's about it. Maybe someone else will pick it up and bring it back to life.
Another one bites the dust.
